Breast Cancer chat. Sort of

Laid in the pre-op anaesthetic suite with a team of people connecting various tubes and wires to me, all of who looked very professional and experienced - realising I was the only one in the room who had never done this before; then thinking "will I still be me when (if) I wake up?" (brain surgery)

AND... I had Stage 4a colon cancer at diagnosis. I've been NED for 4.8 years...and NO DOCTOR will say that it won't recur...so I'd like, at least, annual scans for many years to come. Let's catch the recurrences EARLY. It's called being PROACTIVE...not fearful.

Another great point! Yes, it's important 4 researchers & clinicians to know that after #cancer treatment, very few patients are "asymptomatic." We are rife w/symptoms & side effects from our treatments, surgeries, etc. It's v. hard 2 sort out what's NORMAL pain & what's potential RECURRENCE. #cansky

I can hardly think of a better example of the moral decay in modern health care than a Goldman analyst noting that biotech cures for diseases like hepatitis are cool and all, until their success diminishes the business opportunity for pharmaceutical manufacturers. www.cnbc.com/2018/04/11/g...

Goldman Sachs asks in biotech research report: 'Is curing patients a sustainable business model?'

Goldman Sachs warns sales from the most successful disease treatments are difficult to maintain.

I'd really like 2 recast this whole fear of recurrence thing (#FoCR). Maybe call it LEGITIMATE DESIRE 4 DISEASE MONITORING instead? Pts aren't nec fearful, jst trying 2 figure out if they have undetected disease. If u dangle a 2K lb piano over someone's head, they're legit concernd. #SABCS24 #cansky
