I am somehow just finding out that Du Barry Was A Lady is out on Blu-Ray. This was a staple growing up. Hardly perfect, but I long to see this in HD. Whether it actually holds up or not, the cast is killer: Lucille Ball, Red Skelton, Zero Mostel, and Gene Kelly, and that's just for starters.

"It has forever been thus: So long as men write what they think, then all of the other freedoms- all of them- may remain intact. And it is then that writing becomes a weapon of truth, an article of faith, an act of courage." ~Rod Serling

I never did Nano but all the dumb shit they did ruined something fun for a lot of friends of mine. Honestly, someone should "bring it back," which is to say just start doing it every November as a decentralized fun thing where we just share our love of writing. Needs a new name maybe.

Hey remember when Nanowrimo said "sure why not" to allowing AI slop in their process and then immediately died after 20 years of operation oh, no reason, was just thinkin' about it

Opinion: As you can see from these charts, I don't understand people. We can't simply implement proven practices in a country where we've never tried them. We're the US - we invented the assembly line. We only innovate ways of making the poor service everyone else, not the other way around.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

I loathe the take of “well every writer is using AI and afraid to say it”. Like, that’s only true if your sample group is tech reporters and various hacks. Writers that don’t give a shit about writing, they just know they need a newsletter to make money, use AI. That’s a big fucking difference

How much of this trouble are we in just because this dumb fuck loves adjectives too much? Everything is "beautiful" and "perfect." There's a brand of person who thinks they sound smart based on their use of adjectives. They have the same "brain" as generative AI machines and they're ruining us.

These shitty AI corps (and their shitty enabler startups, why TF does an AI corp need an NDA while stealing books??) are doing bulk orders through places like INGRAM SPARK (fuck) -- I opted out of their shitty collusion but who knows if they'll abide by it. www.404media.co/ai-companies...

AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop

If you'd have told 15 year old me that Matt Damon was playing Odysseus I'd feel roughly as confused as I still do. I've seen him in Bourne, Baby Bourne (the boss-baby style prequel) and I still can't take him as a lead. It's not about his acting. I just keep forgetting about him.

I'm realizing my history of writing fake nonfiction (and now a little real nonfiction) would make me perfect for this new iteration of The Onion. Starting to feel like I should "Just go work for The Onion, they'll like [my] little skits." It doesn't work that way, sure, but I've got my eye out.
