Reasonably happy almost all the time somehow. Unbelievably lucky husband and dad, former software industry veteran now studying software team values in the York University Science and Technology Studies Ph.D. program. Heretic, theretic, everywheretictic

It was clear then & only cleared now that we need leverage beyond Big Tech or the state to curb this perilous combo. B/c Big Tech nor gov are incentivized to make the safe, reasoned, technically grounded, human rights preserving choices when billions $ and geopolitical advantage hang in the balance.

ICE claims that Araujo drove into one of their SUVs with his van and then tried to run over an agent. There were no marks on the van and KHOU11's Jeremy Rogalski found surveillance footage showing ICE chasing Araujo and cutting him off. Renee Good all over again.

This is the same fallacy as “If you hate America, leave.” Loyal opposition is a concept our party should really get our heads around, given that’s its current function in government. Know who hates the Democratic Party? Republicans. Let’s be less like them.

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.

Delighted to have had the opportunity to review this valuable book in the LSE Review of books! #Software practitioners are a complex and under-studied lot; it’s great to have a study like this looking at their (our) potentials for class identity.

NEW: The contradictory social codes and class identity of tech workers. The Social Codes of Tech Workers by @robertdorschel.bsky.social @cam.ac.uk @mitpress.bsky.social, a sociological study of class among mid-level digital labourers, reviewed by @sakhavi.bsky.social 👇

These ghouls act like they've discovered some novel secret: "Hey, guys, GUYS! Did you know that we can just kill people whenever we want?" Yes, you absolute idiot, that's ALWAYS been true. We just chose not to, for good and self-interested reasons which the entire world is about to learn yet again.

Lindsey Graham: "If we get in a fight, I want to win it quick. I'm in Miami. You see this hat? 'Free Cuba.' Stay tuned. The liberation of Cuba is upon us. We're marching through the world. We're clearing out the bad guys. Cuba is next."

You should be able to trust software. It should do what it was sold to do. It shouldn’t be broken. It shouldn’t be designed to actively hurt its users. I’ve spent my career building trustworthy software. In Congress, I will make sure companies are liable when they don’t.

Vote for you why? So you can fund the war against us? Oppose. Abolish and prosecute ICE, impeach and remove and refuse to seat Republicans, pack the Supreme Court, imprison Trump and his cabinet, defund the police; fight the fight before us and win in a massive landslide or gtfo forever.

things off the top of my head that i can think of that conservatives have called tyranny - health care subsidies - seeing pronouns in an email - being suspended from a social media platform - pride month - baking a cake for a same sex wedding - legal rulings against donald trump - EV benchmarks

Trump's thugs are going hog wild and tossing gas around in one of the busiest commercial districts in Minneapolis, just a mile or so from where I live. Complete insanity. (vid via Ford Fischer on X)

So now I always ask: if you're some faculty member posting loudly about gender justice or whatever, do you know the name of just one single person on your campus who deals with these cases? No? Then what are you doing.

Respectfully, what’s the debate? The president of the United States has called for the trial and execution of members of Congress in a manner that would make Charles I blush. As a constitutional matter, I fail to see where there is room for reasonable disagreement about what happened yesterday.

President Trump’s recent statements accusing Democratic lawmakers of making “seditious” comments to military and intelligence community members have ignited a free speech debate. #ConstitutionDaily unpacks the constitutional obligations of those who serve the country: https://ow.ly/fXXk50XvVxB

Sorry, but this is not enough. The Democratic Senators' posts/videos about the outrageous Thing also need to go the next step & demand his immediate impeachment & removal. No, it won't happen. Doesn't matter. Normalize enforcing the rule of law & the Constitution. Articulate what must be done.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution. Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.
