End of a Microscopic Galaxy 🌌🔥 This high-density neuronal culture screams cosmic web collapsing into stellar fire. 🔥Fiery Orange: Actin ❄️Cool Blue: DNA Sometimes, looking down through a microscope allows us to look up at the cosmos. 🔬: Joe McKellar

🤩 It's time for some invertebrate eye candy! 🤩 Here's a ctenophore (or comb jelly) stained with phalloidin by John Alexander Salazar Hernandez & imaged on an exaSPIM built by Kaelin Wulf of the team of @adamkglaser.bsky.social as part of the FHL Functional Biodiversity course #microscopy

Nsamba and Villeneuve use high-resolution immunofluorescence microscopy and live imaging to investigate the differential contributions of β-tubulin isotypes to acentrosomal oocyte meiosis in #Celegans. rupress.org/jcb/article/... #Cytoskeleton #Development
Happy #MicroscopyMonday! Take a look at this tiny marine rotifer, Brachionus manjavacas, imaged on the Orientation-Independent Differential Interference Contrast (OI-DIC) microscope, which was invented at the MBL. Imaged by @shribak.bsky.social and @kristingribble.bsky.social.
Hot take but any reporter that makes the actin network visible will make any cell look awesome under the microscope! These Xenopus 🐸 ectoderm cells are expressing an actin tension sensor, and you can see the retrograde flow very nicely. Actin is better than microtubules 😁 #FluorescenceFriday
Another fishy #FluorescenceFriday. Even a simple DAPI (blue-yellow) and actin (red) staining can decorate the zebrafish one-day-old embryo spectacularly! 🐟
Happy #FluorescenceFriday 🔥 The title may be new, but the spectacular microscopy isn't! Congratulations to the newly minted DR @vanderspuy.bsky.social on a well-earned PhD! 🔬
During the final group project at #IALSJanelia, participants are combining their knowledge of light sheet microscopy, large data handling, and tracking to measure macrophage motion in a zebrafish tail. The data shown here was taken on our SiMView microscope by @anjanja1024.bsky.social.
Watch a muscle fiber take shape. 🔬 This microscopic video captures a muscle cell fusing with a developing muscle fiber, with cell membranes visible in purple and yellow. The Rando Lab uses live-cell imaging to understand how cells coordinate muscle regeneration. Credit: Tamas Nagy/Rando Lab
My 1st Nikon Small World Reject of 2026 :-) A heart muscle cell photographed through a microscope. Alpha actinin 2 and beta myosin II are shown. #CellBiology
#2026SDB with amazing fluorescent imaging again. However, every session I attended so far has talks with red-green LUTs. 6-8% of us have color vision issues, especially for red-green. More visible color combos are easy to generate. As scientists, we can do better. 🧬🪰🐭🐟🧫🦎 #WeTheColorBlind #devbio

New Toettchlab paper alert! Harrison Oatman just published his beautiful work combining software design for "smart" microscopy+optogenetics and some really beautiful work understanding EGFR-driven collective cell migration. www.cell.com/cell-systems...
Happy #FluorescenceFriday. Its always exciting when i get to test out new constructs in my cells. It's not common that I get to see the ER network in an immune cell. This construct is not strictly ER but it's so overly expressed that it labels the ER in an embryonic macrophage in 🐸. How cool?
I am excited to open my lab at @ibioillinois.bsky.social in Spring 2027! We will use zebrafish & other fishy friends to reveal the genetic basis of large scale changes in the vertebrate body plan, and how this impacts both human health and evolution. Join me at UIUC! 🧬🧫🔬 www.hawkinslaboratory.com

Happy #FluorescenceFriday! 🔥🧪🔬 A blaze of neural crest cells migrates through a developing quail embryo on one of embryonic development's most epic journeys. Beautifully captured by @vanderspuy.bsky.social 👩🔬🐣 #Devbio
This #MicroscopyMonday is a developing Apple Snail embryo. On the left is the shell, the middle the body and the foot at the bottom. On the right the head with the eye (green circle) and the tentacle bud. 🐌 (@planaria1.bsky.social Lab)
Despite its nebula-like qualities, this image is from the microscopic rather than astrophysical scale. This adherent cell was labeled for focal adhesions (blue structures) and actin (orange fibers). It is one of the many samples the team is hard at work preparing for #IALSJanelia 2026!
#TubulinTuesday Reposting an old favourite - breast cancer cell grown in a low dose of taxes for a long time. It's swirling peripheral actin is winding microtubules like yarn on a spindle, pulling its DNA along into the maelstrom.
