McKenna/MK Dean Mysteries

Award-winning #author of crockpot PNR romances & cozy mysteries. I like putting characters in hot water to see how strong they are. Like teabags, only deadlier. She/her https://linktr.ee/McKenna_Dean

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Robert Frost: Of course. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, & sorry I could not travel both & be one traveler, long I stood & looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth…

I fancy myself a chef, though I possess neither the skills to cook nor any desire to acquire them. Instead, I visit a restaurant, tell the chef how I'd like my food prepared, send it back until it's right, photograph the results, then inform everyone that 𝘐 cooked it. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↔️ This post is about Gen AI.

I feel the same way about ghost stories: they’re social memes that keep characters and lessons in alive by existing simultaneously in both history and the present; they aren’t just fun tales for campfires - they’re immortal reminders/warnings of a community’s pride and/or shame.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260: Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.

I would be EXTREMELY annoyed to discover my PR is "AI"-generated, and as someone bombarded with dozens of "AI"-generated emails daily, I assure you the stink of "AI" is immediately noticable and immediately dismissible. Publishers are not doing their new books any favors in using it.

For @wired.com, I spoke with workers about the quiet push to experiment with AI tools from book publishing executives at the Big Five. www.wired.com/story/book-p...

It never ceases to amaze me how many people are more offended by "bad" language than actual acts of violence. Perhaps we should instill getting your mouth washed out with soap for all acts of cruelty, racism, and misogyny.

Kind of funny that the country that drove people to use words like "unalive" because they think even referring to bad things is somehow harmful is now about to livestream an execution by firing squad

Well, I don't know, Susan. Maybe it's because I work ten hour shifts and the price of food and gasoline has skyrocketed since 2024 and on a good night I get about 5 hours of sleep due to existential dread and the LAST thing I want to do is pretend everything's ok when my social battery is dead.

The dreadful decline of hosting at home: ‘I feel shame any time a friend comes over’

It used to be quite normal to pop next door for a coffee or invite friends over for dinner. But not any more. What’s behind this change – and just how damaging is it?

Billionaire families have spent $1.7 BILLION on the 2026 midterms so far — a 5,200% increase since the 2010 midterms. Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day. Big Money is the root of our dysfunction.

Very on brand for 2026 that this has felt like the longest year in recorded history but also the first 10 days of October disappeared in 17 minutes, like can we slow this thing down a little please I have spooky shit to do and soup to eat

This is a tough one for me because so many of my favorite authors could easily serve as inspiration. But if we're talking specific to my writing, it would have to be the crit group of amazingly talented writers who believe in me more than I believe in myself. #pretendpanel

There are genres I don't read because either I don't enjoy them or because my soul is a squishy invertebrate right now and certain genres feel too real to make for light escapism. But I will defend to the death your right to read whatever genres you love and platforms should NOT be censoring them.

#pretendpanel Terry Pratchett will always inspire me. With his dedication to his craft, his humanism, his way of making things humourous and not didactic while still going deep on his themes. I aspire. I’ll never be funny like him, so instead, my goal is stated in this meme I want to share with you:

On the Sue Sylvester meme template

Top text: Me planning Ao Rakona

Bottom text: I am going to create a discworld that is so horny
