comparing game development to mindlessly swinging a hammer is such a braindead take programming can be a medium for creative expression just as much as writing or composing. the fact that it requires technical craft doesn't somehow disqualify it from being art. art and craft aren't opposites

It's not an art. It's a craft. And like many, I've spent 30 years honing my own but even I can see the writing on the wall here. If dudes wanna be John Henry dying of a heart attack swinging the hammer, they can do that. Personally I don't see any nobility in that.
