I'm finding it a bit annoying that the chatter on Keith Pettigrew is all about how Johnson didn't get what he wanted and not... like... how he might run CHA.

Assoc Prof at U Chicago Crown School: landlords, vouchers, and so forth | Formerly U Hawai`i | Actually a sociologist
Over the next few days, we'll introduce our four new Associate Editors. First up: @philipgarboden.bsky.social, who studies supply-side housing market actors and policy. His work on landlords has shaped how we understand their role in housing markets and communities. We're lucky to have him!
Without getting into the issue of whether or not blocking corporate ownership of single family rentals is desirable, this seems like a poor way to restrict it. Can someone explain why this is preferable to other disincentives... a pigouvian tax perhaps?
Find him, bind him Tie him to a pole and break His fingers to splinters Drag him to a hole Until he wakes up naked Clawing at the ceiling of his grave
Putting reddleman on my vision board to begin 2026.
I would not have thought I could dislike this man any more than I already did. And yet here we are.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.
AI could end scarcity, end humanity - or boost trend growth by 0.2 percentage points
Every AI talk: "I am not myself a programmer..." Can the computer scientists not speak?
Based on my social media feeds over the last 48 hours, I'd say we finally found something on which "the academy" lacks intellectual diversity. "If it's not love, then it's the BLS, BLS, BLS that will bring us together."
Also, just…it is the summer of 2025, and the crisis that a bunch of self-described progressives in an immigrant-heavy blue city neighborhood are volunteering 100s or even 1000s of hours collectively to fight is…preventing seven story buildings with affordable housing
This is a disappointing article from the @chicagotribune.com @jake-sheridan.bsky.social leaving out the social context of e vs w of Broadway, the fact that proponents outnumbered opponents 2-1 in plan commission comments, and letting obvious lies go uncorrected www.chicagotribune.com/2025/07/20/p...
Some of y’all can’t handle two high agency males going at it and it really shows
I appreciate the transparency, but would it not have been simpler to have AI write the books that AI made up in the AI generated review?
On Sunday, May 18, the print and e-paper editions of the Chicago Sun-Times included a special section titled the Heat Index: Your Guide to the Best of Summer, featuring a summer reading list that our circulation department licensed from a national content partner. 🧵
I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold
Storming a Quaker Meeting House with weapons drawn is something that is so abhorrent and unacceptable that I am still struggling to comprehend it tbh.
🚨 Outrage as 20 police officers break into Westminster Quaker Meeting House and arrest six. 🚨 This shocking violation of a place of worship is a direct result of crackdowns on protest and dissent - freedom of speech, assembly and democracy are at risk.🕊️ 👉 www.quaker.org.uk/news-and-eve...
Heartbreaking to see announcements of major layoffs at most research organizations that have played a vital role in supporting federal statistics for education and developing high-quality evidence about what policies/practices actually work. Below are just a few examples from my LinkedIn feed.
Dear manager, This week I’ve 1. Let the days go by 2. Let the water hold me down 3. Water flowing underground 4. Into the blue again, into the silent water 5. Once in a lifetime Same as it ever was,

I'm no expert, but Jeremy Frey makes impossible things.
So much fun thinking through this with these amazing folks!

It's like I'm waiting anxiously for the HUD pick, but also glad that it doesn't seem to be a top priority.
For all housing policy scholars! Please make your submissions for the Cityscape symposium that @philipgarboden.bsky.social and I are editing on landlords and HUD assisted populations. All methods, disciplines, and housing programs welcome! www.huduser.gov/portal/perio...
