GOOD NEWS! A personalized mRNA vaccine has SUCCEEDED in keeping melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, from returning. Phase III trial results in MORE THAN 1,100 patients shows the vaccine SIGNIFICANTLY extended the time patients lived without their melanoma returning AND reduced the risk of metastasis.
Moderna and Merck say mRNA cancer vaccine succeeded in late-stage melanoma trial

My favorite line from those days was “the Bill of Rights is not a suicide pact” Because actually, in a very real sense: yes, it is
We were like maybe the government shouldn't know every single book you checked out of the library and they asked why we hated the troops
Yeah, I always figure feeling a bit crook after a vaccine is like people complaining about the brusing after getting shot wearing a bullet proof vest ;)
Title 18 US Code 597: "Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate...if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Trump: "We're making a fortune. So if the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000. It will be called the Trump Dividend. Congratulations."
Since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via "DOGE dividend" -$2000 stimulus checks via "tariff dividend" -$1000+ checks via "savings" from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 "dividend" if Rs win midterms No checks have been issued www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-magi...
Trump: "If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate...I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."
You really can't budge an inch on this stuff. It does nothing but validate their deranged hatred. This was a test of leadership and Talarico failed it
Talarico: "I oppose trans athletes playing in girls' sports if it endangers safety or fairness"

i would really like a member of congress to ask these execs whether they understand what labs who study and possess the most dangerous infectious diseases on earth have to do, in terms of security and safeguards, and then ask whether their companies have similarly stringent protocols
if you were working on a product that had a serious potential to eliminate all life on earth (and a 10% chance is not a small chance), every government on earth would have not only a right, but a duty to treat every person in your employ as an existential, hostile threat and act accordingly
I would like an AI crash to happen not because I want to go back to a world before LLM-AI, but because I want to discipline people like this into providing a product and shutting the fuck up
I’d like to know who is on the Anthropic comms team
I'm a white-knuckle hater of the "both parties are the same/uniparty" blackpill, which really crumbles if you compare GOP state trifectas and Dem trifectas for 10 seconds.
For the past two years I've been tracking every bill proposed in state legislatures across the country to figure out what Republican plans for the future are. The answer, based on these 1,182 bills, is that they want to repeal the 20th Century heartlandsignal.com/2026/09/09/b...
“Obviously not on the same day as the collapse”
the president of the United States is clearly insane
She was there. Unlike that narcissistic, bloated, spray-tanned piece of excrement, she was actually there: Showing empathy. Transcending party. Helping. Leading. No AI slop. No asinine stories. No bullshit. Never forget...
This movie was mostly just goofy fun, but it had a few moments with some of the best physical comedy I’ve seen on screen in years.

when i worked at sbux in high school they kept scheduling me for like 35 hours a week and i kept saying i can't work this schedule i have to go to school. turned out they were hugely overscheduling kids to avoid giving enough hours to the adults that they would've qualified for health insurance

Deciding that this isn't news is an active choice. The New York Times ran a front page headline implying that Joe Biden had Parkinson's Disease because they found a Parkinson's export on a White House visitor log. Trump full-on hallucinates that he was at ground zero, and... crickets.
Of all the the many ways this asshole gets a pass from the media, his now 25 year history of making up shit about how he was at ground zero on 9/11 or the immediate aftermath is the most gobsmacking. Imagine literally any other politician doing this: it would be front page news for months.
Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."
Here's an anecdote: On 9/10/2001, The Onion staff had a New York launch party at the Bowery Ballroom to celebrate the staff's move from Madison, Wisconsin to New York City. They woke up hungover, took a week off, and then produced one of the greatest front pages in the history of newspapers.
Hey everybody. On the 25-year anniversary, we're reprinting the much revered 9/11 edition of The Onion and sending that free to every member this month. It's been 25 long years. Look back in anger.
It's finally happened: the improved quality of machine transcription and the greater ability to extract value from unlabelled data means "your tech is eavesdropping on you for marketing purposes" has crossed from "false conspiracy theory" to "true and concerning" www.theverge.com/tech/991190/...

I am sympathetic to Silicon Valley guys ascribing human-level consciousness to AI because if I had to talk to people from Silicon Valley all day I’d probably have a real low bar for sentience too

I can probably apply physical trauma to an LLM if I try hard enough.
"people are anthropomorphizing LLMs because they are so astonishingly good at processing human thought and language" people will anthropomorphize a chair if you put the stitches in the right place.
