i dislike the whole project but his paintings have always overwhelmingly struck me as NAIVE in a way that he doesnt seem to intend-- he's treating the illo as lowbrow and authorless and making a joke of putting it into Fine Art, but all i can see is man this fucker had no grasp of drawing at all lol

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.

A drab pop art painting of a sinister man driving a car, watching a stoic blonde in leopard print fur. The proportions of the guy's face are off

My wife was surprised to learn I had had the mumps as a kid. She wanted to know why I hadn’t had the MMR. I just looked it up, the MMR was introduced to the USA in 1971 but the UK didn’t get it until 1988. WTF??? That’s worse than when we used to get movies in England a few months after their US run

My wife yells at me all the time to stop making this one weird face, I didn’t really know what face she meant, but I saw this candid photo from a workshop I presented at a Bookfest this afternoon and okay, yes, I see it now

Listen. Twitter. Bluesky. It's a false binary. We should all be reading The Power Broker by Robert Caro and letting our hilights and notes communicate with the next person to see them.

Job interview tip: Turn up with beans and make them into coffee in front of the interviewer. When asked why say that you are addicted to the grind.

Sword & Backpack: The Three Companions, has now been out for a week and I have NO IDEA how to promote it except to tell you that it’s the first book in a (technically) middle grade fantasy adventure trilogy that features at least one recipe, a neat deck of cards, a play-within-a-book, and more!

The first episode of WORZEL GUMMIDGE (1979) sees the loveable scarecrow come alive for the first time, and it's directed like a scene from an Italian zombie film. Lucio Fulci would approve!

Believe me, I wish this were true, but that's what it is, wishful thinking. Freddie Mercury was never open about his sexuality* or his ethnicity. To me that makes the image political, but more in the sad "reflection of its time" kind of way. However there's another important aspect to this photo...

Somebody claiming Queen playing Live Aid was an apolitical thing, with someone else clapping back saying it's an image of a queer Indian man playing at a charity event, which makes the photo political. All those things are true, Freddie Mercury was gay and he was Indian, and Live Aid was a charity concert, but none of it was quite as straightforward as that.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

Me after meeting/seeing Caroline Cash, Mike Dawson, Kim Deitch, Evan Keeling, James Spooner and a number of others at SPX this yeat that just published their shit with no regard to perfectionism, quality, what other people want, or the belief of other people (even though that helps a lot tbh)

Dialogue: Fuck it, we ball.

Almost certainly a combo of SPX weekend and dealing with having a parent in the ICU, but I feel like someone drove a cement truck over me. Good news tho, my mom was deemed well enough to move into a regular hospital room last night :)
