Our literary rivalry hets up. For the record I am only at 22 because I am suspicious of odd numbers and REFUSED the number 21 spot

You're going to get so sick of me soon. I'M sick of me. Here's an essay I did for the Guardian about being the hip young gunslinger of Irish literature: www.theguardian.com/books/2026/j...

‘Nobody is pretending to like my work because of my fresh-faced good looks’: the pros of being a debut novelist at 51

There are some advantages to being an older debutant, including knowing what it’s like to fail and not having your new novel overshadowed by early literary promise

Anna isn’t sure it’s appropriate to write about Freyne in this manner given that he is, in fact, my near 78 year old father. I think it’s fine

First year selling my art at Christmas without the Other site, where most of my sales came from, as well as losing US orders to new tariffs, so it'll be a tough one - I put huge work into every order, so even if you can't buy, shares help get them in front of eyes. Me, My Film, and My Massive Brain Tumor

David Freyne directed and co-wrote a film about death. Then, he learned he had a brain tumor the size of an apple.

It's important to give conservative politicians their dues when they're on the right side of an issue like this, because we want elections to be fought over housing policy and taxes and stuff, not demonising minorities. Make politics boring again!

Great culture can save lives. Literally. Amazing letter in today’s @thetimes.com about Tom Stoppard

Yes I am biased because this book is dedicated to me but it really is amazing. 💖 🦊 🎸

I've written a novel, Experts in a Dying Field. It's out on Penguin Sandycove in June. It's about about a band and a tragedy & art for art's sake & aging & loss & community & Dublin. In future I will insist that all family photos take place in front of film premiere backdrops

On Monday @urchinette.bsky.social and I went to the star-filled London premiere of my brother David's film Eternity. WAS EXCELLENT (teenage nephews just out of shot)

AI advocates fundamentally have no understanding of creativity and my God, it’s grim to behold. Even on the days when hitting my book’s wordcount target is like drawing blood from a stone, I don’t want a fucking machine to do it for me. And not just because the result would be soulless shit.

Much like Downton Abbey, House of Guinness is best treated as a delightful hallucinatory cheese dream

If this intends to make it legally compulsory for every adult in Derry to carry something called a "Brit Card", then I'm willing to offer some high-paid consultancy on why this plan might be flawed.
