I'm just going to keep yelling this louder and louder until it clicks: weird overpaid AI nerds hand-wringing about human extinction are trying to distract you from the extremely deadly and serious harms they are causing yesterday, today and tomorrow www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

One of my favorite games in a long while, to the point that I still enjoy playing it despite the massive design envy it inspires. If it comes to PC I'll have a run going in the background most days.
All Systems Brough - IMBROGLIO We're joined by @nicole.pizza @eddybox.bsky.social @getdizzy.bsky.social to discuss this deck-building genre-defining brough-like, the 9th game in our yearlong coverage of @smestorp.bsky.social's wide-ranging catalogue. secretlives.games/all-systems-...
you can destroy the world with a random number generator if you hook it up to the nukes, but you need a guy to do that. sans human interaction language models do nothing. they cannot think. they're not getting any closer to thought. they never will
the only threats "AI" poses to society are when people put it in charge of things that require thought, or crash the economy over it, or destroy the environment to power it. but it's people doing all of those things. AI poses zero threat by itself as it cannot do anything due to not existing
The "Adults Only" ranking has been removed from Nighthawks! Everything is set for launch on the 22nd! Phew. What a roller coaster. Thank you everyone for your amazing support while we got this sorted. If you weren't able to wishlist before, now you can! store.steampowered.com/app/1221950/...
This is such bullshit though. How are these things being mapped to the connectome? Like, what possible mechanism could you use to encode "food detection" and "threat avoidance" to moving prices that doesn't already give you the reactions without passing it through the fake fly brain?
*I'm sure that this week's hacker-fad of fly-brain hacking is mostly satire and design fiction, but this is a rare example of some real-world eruption that really does belong in a Rudy Rucker novel
If anyone has contacts at Valve who can help expedite this, we certainly wouldn't say no to the help. In the meantime, I'll be here swimming in cortisol.
We are aware that Steam has classified Nighthawks as an adult game and has excluded it from searches (and delisted it entirely in certain countries). We are working on it. Valve is under the impression that this game is way sexier than it actually is.
So like, how do folding phones manage the aspect ratio transition and apps that are limited to specific orientations? Does portrait become "camera is at top of phone" vs "higher than wide" to keep the orientation consistent, or do apps that are portrait-only spin? Which way do they spin if so?
Shroom and Gloom is out in Steam Early Access! The double-deck building roguelite with fungal foes to battle and cook is unlike anything you've played before. It's a trip. 🍄
Fuckin naneinf economy run this time around.

Please stop accepting the framing that giving the textual inference machine a prompt like "what would you type if you were an amazing hacker" and then typing that into a shell 5000 times a second is an "agent doing things of it's own volition". It's not, it's your fucking volition.
it is genuinely demoralizing to try to open unity and have it be like "YOUR LLM IS READY" and then you close that popup and slack is like "ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE LLM" and you close that popup and then notion is like "OH YOU PRESSED THE WRONG SHORTCUT WHAT DID YOU WANT TO ASK THE LLM"
Dang.
In prep for our Imbroglio episode on TSLOG, I spent a while re-reading all of @smestorp.bsky.social's old blog posts. Legit some of the best, most useful writing ever done about making videogames. Check out this nugget from May 2016, sooo good mightyvision.blogspot.com/2016/05/imbr...
Wow, this is really cool: a web-playable demo of 868-BACK. You *definitely* don't have an excuse for not trying this gem anymore. ;) ;) finji.itch.io/868-back

I don't give a shit if you are absolutely certain you have a great and unique artistic vision and voice that you need to use these tools to express. I don't give a shit. It's all or nothing. As long as it exists your precious "work" will be buried under an endless stream of slop with everyone else.
I masked for all of Gamescom, people who asked why would accept "I have a deadline in 3 weeks" because obviously I couldn't afford to get sick. But like, when can anyone "afford" it?
Consistently masking at conventions is unpleasant, uncomfortable, and sometimes chafes my ears. But as I have not added severe illness to this year's carousel of exhaustion, I am glad to continue doing it, and continue to recommend it to my peers.
Unavoidable tool of the future, or grifters stealing the creative output of the planet to inflate their stock valuations? How Could Anyone Ever Tell?
Buckmaster says yeah, but was it TRAINED on private sessions. Radio silence. It gets weirder. OpenAI makes two offers: we post the results together or you post your results and credit openAI.
barrier to entry for making videogame was once Very High,, we would spend entire weekend figuring out how to use Rpgmaker thankfully now for low price of PLANET NOT INHABITABLE you can instruct mr computer to copy someone’s code from github and put your name on it and He will tell you did a good job
And meanwhile, a whole bunch of smaller studios would be able to do more than just attempt to survive
Valve should lower their rev share portion to 15% for the first $1m a game earns. Not because it would would help small teams survive to make more games (it would), but because they would earn more money in the long term.
People keep asking us if they should buy Future? No Thanks! or pre-order GTA VI so we made a quick guide:
The Everdawn is in turmoil, the throne is in flux. Take it for yourself, before the monsters arrive!
Fool King’s Steam demo is now available! Grab your swords & best battle tactics to claim your title as the one & only Fool King. Can you defeat all your rivals in this asynchronous PvP auto-battler? Steam page - store.steampowered.com/app/4380860/...
Some thoughts have horrible brain-feel. Like "Roald is just Ronald without the N" is ick to think about.
Claude Code's source leak was barely 5 months ago. Absolutely nothing has been done to deal with the absolute bullshit outputs of these systems, other than throw more compute and pleading prompts at everything in the hope that *more* loops will magically work. bsky.app/profile/disl...
People who aren’t using AI to code at this point are delusional or lying, trying to ride a horse down the highway and backing up the traffic instead of asking “what can we do to make cars safer and electric.” They have no ethical high ground
Every game dev has made at least one settings menu full of jokes. It's an important release valve.
if people were genuinely interested in preparing children for an “inevitable future” they’d be stopping global warming and solidifying concrete pathways to homeownership, not teaching kids how to play with Claude The Guessing Toy
its our last big update. the game will be less than 5 bucks on monday if you haven't nabbed it but are treads-curious

Had a mentor session this week and it was really fun showing my mentee how far we got with "bad" code (and also some good ™️ code). Like p tightly coupled singletons, with many LOC, that still gets the job done. Although even within something like that, using good methodologies to avoid issues 🙌
