One of my favorite games in a long while, to the point that I still enjoy playing it despite the massive design envy it inspires. If it comes to PC I'll have a run going in the background most days.

you can destroy the world with a random number generator if you hook it up to the nukes, but you need a guy to do that. sans human interaction language models do nothing. they cannot think. they're not getting any closer to thought. they never will

the only threats "AI" poses to society are when people put it in charge of things that require thought, or crash the economy over it, or destroy the environment to power it. but it's people doing all of those things. AI poses zero threat by itself as it cannot do anything due to not existing

This is such bullshit though. How are these things being mapped to the connectome? Like, what possible mechanism could you use to encode "food detection" and "threat avoidance" to moving prices that doesn't already give you the reactions without passing it through the fake fly brain?

*I'm sure that this week's hacker-fad of fly-brain hacking is mostly satire and design fiction, but this is a rare example of some real-world eruption that really does belong in a Rudy Rucker novel

So like, how do folding phones manage the aspect ratio transition and apps that are limited to specific orientations? Does portrait become "camera is at top of phone" vs "higher than wide" to keep the orientation consistent, or do apps that are portrait-only spin? Which way do they spin if so?

Please stop accepting the framing that giving the textual inference machine a prompt like "what would you type if you were an amazing hacker" and then typing that into a shell 5000 times a second is an "agent doing things of it's own volition". It's not, it's your fucking volition.

it is genuinely demoralizing to try to open unity and have it be like "YOUR LLM IS READY" and then you close that popup and slack is like "ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE LLM" and you close that popup and then notion is like "OH YOU PRESSED THE WRONG SHORTCUT WHAT DID YOU WANT TO ASK THE LLM"

I don't give a shit if you are absolutely certain you have a great and unique artistic vision and voice that you need to use these tools to express. I don't give a shit. It's all or nothing. As long as it exists your precious "work" will be buried under an endless stream of slop with everyone else.

barrier to entry for making videogame was once Very High,, we would spend entire weekend figuring out how to use Rpgmaker thankfully now for low price of PLANET NOT INHABITABLE you can instruct mr computer to copy someone’s code from github and put your name on it and He will tell you did a good job

Claude Code's source leak was barely 5 months ago. Absolutely nothing has been done to deal with the absolute bullshit outputs of these systems, other than throw more compute and pleading prompts at everything in the hope that *more* loops will magically work. bsky.app/profile/disl...

People who aren’t using AI to code at this point are delusional or lying, trying to ride a horse down the highway and backing up the traffic instead of asking “what can we do to make cars safer and electric.” They have no ethical high ground

if people were genuinely interested in preparing children for an “inevitable future” they’d be stopping global warming and solidifying concrete pathways to homeownership, not teaching kids how to play with Claude The Guessing Toy

Had a mentor session this week and it was really fun showing my mentee how far we got with "bad" code (and also some good ™️ code). Like p tightly coupled singletons, with many LOC, that still gets the job done. Although even within something like that, using good methodologies to avoid issues 🙌
