I know it sucks, but Dems have got to be prepared to inherit a munitions-and-readiness hole that is going to be expensive to fill, but which will need to be filled. Hardly the only such hole, but it will be a big one.

So the proposed Iran-Oman deal on the strait is a pretty unambiguous defeat for the USA if it goes through, since it would represent a formalization of Iran's de facto control of the strait and presumably create the conditions for Iran to extract goodness-only-knows how much money from the GCC.

I have really mixed feelings, having lived through the revelation(?) of bushels of toxic commanders, and also thoughts that the good order and discipline crowds out expectations of justice and redress. Mixed feelings is really the hallmark of now; the twisting of things. I hate it here.

Reminds me of the 1988 report “Discriminate Deterrence.” European reaction was so critical that the US government distanced itself from the report it had commissioned. Not sure, whether we’ll see something similar today, since Europeans have agreed to the nuclear-conventional division of labour.

NEW: Eleventh Circuit, on an 8-5 vote, holds that Florida's anti-drag law is likely constitutional. A majority of the court, however, disagreed with Just Brasher that the court should rule on whether the statewide injunction entered in the case was an improper "universal injunction." Law Dork:

This law firm was just awarded a $150 million/year contract to lead representation of unaccompanied minors through immigration proceedings. Seems really bad!

In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

It seems like assigned reading, especially summer reading, should include titles from different genres, with different tones, from different eras. (And as a former sulky Anne Rice-reading teen, I advocate for some over-the-top moodiness in the mix with realistic problem fiction and happier tales.)
