Big Tech oligarchs, from Zuckerberg to extremist-clown-slash-Twitter-owner Elon Musk, have made clear they are no friend to democracy. Yet Canadian politicians, institutions and media outlets continue to reward their companies by using their platforms. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...
Justin Ling: It’s time Canada logged out of tech platforms owned by Donald Trump toadies
If our institutions acted, they could hasten the ongoing exodus from services peddled by allies of the Trump administration.

Reminder: labor unions are as much a part of the free market as corporations are.
Getting my job back at the Washington Post would not have been possible if it wasn’t for me belonging to a union. @postguild.bsky.social and @wbng.org are the unions I belong to. I was able to challenge my wrongful termination because of the collective bargaining agreement / union contract!

A word about Trump’s reckless trade war with Canada. This is happening because Trump’s entire career is based on fraud and grift, which means he simply does not know anything about economics, trade, markets. He never has. (1/2)
This is truly heartbreaking. Dolly Parton was an extraordinary person and an irreplaceable champion of the working class. We are a better country because of her.
The United States is taking aim at Canada once again, with a crushing new set of tariffs. Ultimately, government will need to solve this. But in the same way Canadians are avoiding US alcohol, produce, and other goods, they should get off US tech products too. Luckily, I have a guide for that.
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

Before Europeans arrived, these were some of the names for The Great Lakes: Superior: gichi-gami (great sea) Erie: erielhonan (long tail) Michigan: michigami (long body of water) Ontario: Ontarí'io\kanadario (great lake\beautiful water) Huron: karegnondi (fresh water sea)
I'll be teaching twenty Gr 3 students this fall. This partial back-to-school order would cost $290.38 through my school board and $668.98 at Staples. #DougFord loves talking tough about protecting us from Tr*mp, but he's taking $60M out of public education and handing it to an 🇺🇸 company. #OntEd
Thanks to Doug Ford and Paul Calandra, 80,000 elementary educators have to order classroom supplies from Staples this year instead of from their school boards. I decided to do a little comparison shopping for school supplies many of us will have to order over the course of a school year. 🧵 #OntEd

Is there a summer COVID-19 surge this year? Yep, it's ramping up again
Just like all previous summers since the pandemic began, COVID-19 cases are ticking up again, even while other health threats make more headlines.

Do I have moots in games or games journalism who would want to help out with a charity stream and feel like they could "teach" something? Can be things like "how to design a character" or even like "how to speedbuild in Minecraft." The options are endless. Please DM me! Signal boost!
I think that every parent should be aware of this information.
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
1 in 4 US children have an “underlying” health condition
They think they're being clever eugenicists by saying that people with "underlying health issues" don't matter, but >75% of U.S. adults have a chronic condition (including 60% of age 18–34). So what they're really saying is "nobody matters, it's okay if everybody dies from inadequate regulation."
If you believe this, and I hope you do, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to protect your vulnerable neighbors by wearing masks in crowded and indoor spaces, especially necessary spaces like healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation. Absolutely nothing.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
For the millionth time… CHILDREN THAT NEEDED SCHOOLS FOR FOOD, SHELTER, SAFETY, ALSO NEEDED TO BE KEPT SAFE FROM DISEASE. It was never one thing or another. We should have worked a lot harder to make schools a lot safer much earlier on.
Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"
The most infuriating thing about all the Fauci stuff this week is that everyone is past tensing a pandemic that is still happening. Covid is still disabling and killing people.
They could have equipped every building in the country with clean air so people aren't getting COVID every year.
Our built world is not designed for these changing temperatures and sprawling catastrophes, and there is no plan or budget in place to address this. To make what's ahead more bearable and survivable, we will need transformative change and radical redistribution—not fucking data centers.
When the US has wildfires and other disasters, Canada sends help. When Canada has them, the US sends threats. I hope Canadians never forget this, nor the continual silence of the supposedly reasonable American liberals. The US is our enemy.
Republicans threaten Canada with sanctions over drifting wildfire smoke
Fires are also blazing across the US and the Trump administration has repealed several climate protections

Old enough to remember when the people defending a UFC fighter for making a 'joke' about Michelle Obama at the WH wanted Jimmy Kimmel, a comedian, to be fired for making a joke about melania on his show.
