THREAD: Listen to @danaiwrites.bsky.social and to other Greek authors who continue to face unfair reactions from gatekeepers in publishing and film/tv. Instead of seeing the Anglo-washed 'Odyssey' film, buy books from Greek authors writing Greek myths! Elevate them! Here are some recs (1/15)
The Odyssey, a film about Greek mythology with zero Greek actors in it comes out this Friday, and listen I’ve had more than a year to make my peace with this. (I even wrote an essay about it last year. It was longlisted for a BSFA award.)
But what might finally do me in is all these book roundup recs I see this week where readers, publishers and bookstores put out with books for people to read to “prepare”… and not a single book by a Greek author is featured among them. Sighs in Greek.
As someone who reads slush on a regular basis, I have many many thoughts on the AI-subs stories being shared right now, but one thing is for sure: I hate what AI generated stories are doing to zines and publishers and writers. It makes things harder for everyone who is doing legit work.
I’m delighted to participate in the @futurescapesww.bsky.social 100-page workshop this summer, working with the amazing @niviaevans.bsky.social!!
happy birthday to the incredible, indelible, L.D. Lewis!!!! her books are amazing, full of characters that jumpstarted me into feeling and action (myself). please buy her books!!! do you have them? leave her a birthday tip! as a constant community worker (one of the best), you WANT to do this. yep
Not to be all "it's my birthday, buy my books" but it is and you should. THE DEAD WITHHELD: tiny, quick read, queer, paranormal neo-noir, grumpy protag with questionable decision-making YEAR OF THE MER: big, special editions, fantasy, slow burn sapphic tragedy, grumpy protag, worse decisions

Foundling Fathers lands this Tuesday from @tachyonpub.bsky.social, and my tour begins! East and West Coast dates are below, with alt text. Catch me if you can, because I'm reading from America's birthday present: the blistering satire that she deserves.
Book tours are mostly for big-time bestsellers, but I'm lucky enough to have friends and know booksellers in a lot of places, so I'm doing it! Here are all the places you can see me this summer, talking about Foundling Fathers:
khōréō is simply one of the best magazines in our industry. There are only 28 Backers. If you are somebody who says they support marginalized SFF creators and posted about your sadness over Fantasy & FIYAH closing, you have this opportunity to make sure khōréō continues publishing amazing things.

The Nebulas were a kiiii! I didn’t take nearly enough pictures, but it was amazing seeing old (and new!) friends. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, to the organizers, to the wonderful Toast Master @tananarivedue.bsky.social - and to our newest Grand Master, @nkjemisin.bsky.social!

I've ridden a dromedary in Egypt, and it looks like I may have dodged a bullet. Seriously, this story is neat. #WhatIRead2026

‘A Good Year’ is such a beautiful book, and Polis Loizou is a gem of an author. Y’all want sophisticated Greek literature, rooted in myth and culture and history, by an actual Greek?? It’s here, bbs
I forgot my book's birthday. On 1st April, (coincidentally?) the anniversary of the start of the fight for Cyprus' independence from the British empire, "A Good Year" turned 4. A humble book by anyone's standards, it's given me some truly heartwarming moments over the years.
I recently experienced the Lore Perfume discovery set...some nice notes here! (A small perfume review, wherein I also pair each scent to a @neonhemlock.bsky.social novella)
