I lived in Spain 15 yrs. I'm fluent in Spanish, worked as an interpreter & was integrated into the Spanish community. None of those flag waving Brits in Spain thinks they're an immigrant. They're "expats". They complain about immigrants in the UK not learning English with no awareness of the irony.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."

Microsoft: $101 BILLION in profits. $12.5 BILLION in tax breaks. $176 BILLION in stock buybacks. 4,800 workers fired this week. 9,000 workers fired last year. Please don't tell me trickle-down economics works. It never did. Nothing trickles down.

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

BP profits more than double to $5.7bn in three months as Iran war sends oil prices soaring - "While BP banks enormous profits, millions of households are paying the price" #energycrisis #climatecrisis www.theguardian.com/business/202...

If he gets back in there most probably would be another forced by-election once the Parliamentary Standard commission completes its investigation into his secret £5 million ‘gift’ from a Thai based crypto billionaire, the only way to stop this absolute waste of money is to bin him & vote Binface.

Nigel Farage’s Clacton by-election fight will cost taxpayers an estimated quarter of a million pounds, an official has suggested.

What @toni.bsky.team might be missing is the fact that we've all successfully migrated before to escape a platform that put first quantity, then controversy, then hate before quality. There's nothing that stops us from doing so again. 🤷‍♀️ @bsky.app

The new CEO of Bluesky wants to change Bluesky from being a leftist bubble. The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with being a leftist bubble: the idea that everything has to be all-encompassing and suitable for everyone is a trap. 🧵 1/4

What I love about Bluesky is what I loved about old Twitter: if I want to find out about something (however recondite) there will be someone here (often with a PhD in it) and the time and patience to share their knowledge. /1

They are vile and ugly creatures but, like so many of their followers, mired in ignorance. An ignorance that they revel in. The new age of stupid is about to engulf us but we have weapons … truth and education. Believe.

French forces held a fierce defensive perimeter around Dunkirk and lost 18,000 souls. 40,000 became POWs. Without their resolve we wouldn’t have our nation’s story. It’s estimated 20-60k French resistance fighters died during the war. These fuckers really are vile bastards 😡😡

I’m intrigued by the recent resurgence of the ‘Long Covid is not real’ nonsense we saw back in 20/21. The refusal to learn is one thing, but the dismissal of reality is another. Long Covid is too painful, too common & too present in many people’s lives to be denied. The story is hard to rewrite.
