This is such an great feature (Rebecca is great!), and I've been thinking about it for a few days. IMO, "Influencer" in the ten-years-ago sense was really a LOT of jobs (spokesmodel/copywriter/etc.) but now it's morphing, at least in part, into "intentionally annoying person" which feels worse.

You know, as long as they're hot women while they're on land, I don't see how what they're up to otherwise is my business

haven’t seen the movie so i don’t have a strong opinion on emily wilson’s review of it (other than it was unnecessarily vicious in a couple of spots), but “i hated this and i hope many more things like it get made” is a very relatable opinion about art to me, lol

semi-related to LRS, hence the new post, but I have been trying to break the habit of scrolling while ostensibly "watching something" in the last couple of years and it has been surprisingly (and humblingly) difficult.

This is, unfortunately, a "vote with your attention" situation

i think a lot of studios are realizing that they've just been trying way too hard by making actual tv shows, movies, etc and that a terrifying number of people just want absolute lowest-investment dogshit they can use to completely zone out

it should be much more difficult to upload, host, and share video. like it should still be within the capabilities of the average person but it should be a non-trivial thing to do

my shoes and socks got soaking wet when I was going to the store and I won’t be home and able to change them for like 20 minutes but I’m being SO brave about it

one very funny consequence of having been here since pretty early is that my mutuals are really smart and accomplished and thoughtful and meanwhile I'm like "lol made some progress on the smutty fanfic I'm currently writing" (this is not me being down on myself, I'm genuinely tickled by it)

nobody should use twitter (you don’t have to use bluesky! just not twitter!) but very specifically journalists and entertainment reporters using it has been astoundingly corrosive for our civil dialogue, because we have completely lost any semblance of “saying this is unacceptable”

I think one of the worst things twitter/social media did to our brains is train us to think that we should immediately tell 50,000+ people our first knee-jerk opinion about every complex topic & then trap us in a corner where we have to humble ourselves for being wrong or double down x infinity
