Do you know why airlines are so safe? Because we regulate the ever-loving shit out of them. You don't have to like government regulations. They can be annoying. I promise they have saved your life. They happen when people get hurt or die. Every single one is written in blood.

Let's learn a lesson from the nearly 500K of us who mobilized to comment on the OMB rules. We can leave the sidelines, take action and it can make a difference. After 15 months of inaction, our scientific societies finally woke up and mobilized members. It doesn't stop there 1/n

PHASE ONE of our fight against the OMB rule is complete and YOU ALL SHOWED UP!!! HALF A MILLION COMMENTS is WILD. We absolutely exceeded our goal of 100,000! So, what happens next??? Welcome to PHASE TWO: Pressure and Preparation! 1/x

Hold on to your hats but… sometimes pregnant people travel. I’ve traveled (domestically) to 2 research conferences for work during this pregnancy, and taken one vacation. This approach endangers the health of pregnant people, full stop. Story time. 1/? 🧪 #momademia #research

WH spox Abigail Jackson: "Another option we're going to be pursuing is keeping the border closed and ramping up deportations, getting people out of the country who have no legal right to be there before they can have a child that anchors them to this country."

America has gotten to that last part of Monopoly where the game is effectively over and we're all just watching the Elites suck up all the money, nobody else is allowed to really keep playing the game & we're all getting more pissed by the minute. Flip the damn board over already.

Fighting through the heartbreak over the CO dem senate primary and appreciating the wins. Melat Kiros beat Degette, proving that the DSA platform resonates outside of NYC. Manny Rutinel got more votes than the republican nominee, sparking hope of turning that district from red to blue. 1/2

One in six kids who have used AI chatbots say an AI has shown or said something they felt “wasn’t OK or wasn’t meant for someone their age”—and most never told a trusted adult about it. 6/

Funny story… Setting up our lab meeting schedule is tricky for a few reasons. The process we finally found is that i create a draft schedule and we edit it as a group, it takes about 10 minutes. One student tried to get AI to make the schedule and it failed spectacularly. At making a schedule.

AI assistance will reduce researcher bias, allow for more efficient use of expensive equipment, create more reproducible research and "bang for the buck" with research investments, and help the U.S. rise in research rankings, she said.

🪼 Your tax dollars paid a scientist to squeeze jellyfish through cheesecloth. Osamu Shimomura processed tens of thousands on an NSF grant to understand why they glow. He found a protein that glowed green under UV light. Called it "green protein." Nobody cared. For decades.

Dearest shoalmates: Please consider posting a comment to the NIH regarding the Strategic Plan that includes reducing funding for animal research. Responses from the research community are currently greatly underrepresented compared w/ advocacy groups opposing animal experimentation. 🔗 below ⬇️ 1/2
