A humble academic proposal: let's not have stars. Everyone hired as an academic at a university is there to teach younger generations, to make new knowledge, to have that knowledge critically evaluated by others, and to act on collective insights. We do not need to designate some people as stars.

Jared Yates Sexton@jysexton.bsky.social · 2d agoWhen trying to understand the Right Wing, it helps to realize they have spent their lives pretending to be someone they aren't and sublimating parts of themselves they hate and that they have to project that pain and hatred onto others because the tension is so unbearable it will destroy them.
As everything seems to crater around us, I want to impress upon you that there is ALWAYS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO. Billionaires and their politicians want us to believe that we are helpless. We are NOT. If something makes you mad, find out who's responsible and CALL THEM. Tell others to call.
If we really wanted to address under-employment of young men through vocational education, we'd encourage care professions Care professions are growing and largely AI-immune. Men joining a female-dominated profession in large numbers boosts the status and pay for everyone. It's a win-win
