Just yelled FUCK OFF loud enough for the upstairs neighbours to hear between bursts of drilling. Wtf are they doing up there? They already spent 18 months renovating the flat then years of noisy DIY. I note that these are the same neighbours who complained about our son playing darts in his bedroom.
The latest BMGN Low Countries Historical Review (open access!) is devoted to history comics in the Low Countries. Yasco Horsman & I had the pleasure of working with the talented Eeva Langeveld, Maaheen Ahmed, Michel De Dobbeleer, Rik Spanjers and Tobi Dahmen bmgn-lchr.nl/article/view... Read it now!
Pleased to report that my first time at Sketchbook Club was great fun and @selkies.bsky.social is absolutely lovely! Hoorah for trying new, fun things. If you’re in Brussels, check it out!
A bit of Friday fun with moquette! Looking back at this shoot, where Andreya tried her best to go incognito in her camouflage jackets, blending into the colourful upholstery of the Circle, Bakerloo and Victoria lines.
I want to watch Belgium v Türkiye in the football and eat my dinner and enjoy a beer but the cat is asleep on my lap, so I will just have to stay hungry and miss the match I suppose.
I also wish pro-EU people stopped making the argument that Brexit was bad because it increased non-EU immigration. There are plenty of reasons why Brexit is bad. This is not one, and it makes you sound massively racist.
Coincidentally, I was reminded today how much I hated Titanic and its dreadful, unconvincing “love story”, while reading Mark Kermode’s very entertaining “The Good, The Bad and the Multiplex”.
Announcing the merger with Titanic footage is an incredible bit
PRINT OF THE DAY I do sometimes photograph things other than the London Underground! Today we’re heading up to Scotland & the brilliantly yellow West Street Station on the Glasgow Subway. I love the futuristic look of these trains in this composite photo. If you like this print see link attached
have you tried unplugging it and never plugging it back in again
Great piece which has got me feeling suite emotional. I also yipped when I heard the news, though in the privacy of my own home. Like Eoghan, I haven’t vibed with the Bailly bar and I will greatly miss BBP Dansaert when it closes its doors.
Just before the weekend, an impromptu personal obituary for the soon-to-close Brussels Beer Project Dansaert bar and brewery - a trailblazer, whatever you might think of them
For the people interested in Bulgarian history. It has also implications on the relationship with North Macedonia who also claim Samuel to be theirs. www.medievalists.net/2026/09/gree...
Greece to Return Remains of Medieval Tsar Samuel to Bulgaria - Medievalists.net
Greece will return the remains of medieval Tsar Samuel to Bulgaria in an agreement that will also see 48 religious artefacts returned to Greece.

Oh god, how embarrassing. And so much stress for everyone. Really glad I hadn’t planned on going. (Probably easier to go to Bayeux if I ever get the urge.)
So the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition is not going very well They've sold far too many tickets and the space cannot cope with the physical number of people - how did they not do basic crowd flow/control calculations? Embarrassing that the British cannot organise a queue properly (Not my photo)
🎯 'A man raped her' instead of 'she was raped.' Have you ever read a headline that reads "A bank was robbed by a suspect?" Nope. It's "A suspect robbed a bank."
People will let Amazon hear every single thing their child says to them from birth to death to make buying cat litter mildly more convenient but reject Schengen as a step too far. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Paddling (canoeing) across Windermere today, into the teeth of a pretty stiff Force 3 wind - lumpy, and just this side of whitecaps - I came across a swimming squirrel, looking very stressed. Not a planned swim, I'm guessing. It was 300m to either shore, so I'm not sure s/he was going to be okay.
Asked my mum, in her late 70s, what she was up to and her activities for the next 48 hours feel like a microcosm of British pensioner life: Morris dancing, flu vaccination, a funeral, friend coming over to do jigsaws, folk music night.
Do you have any recommendations @alisonbaker01.bsky.social ?
Also I note these are almost all by white women. If you have any recommendations of more diverse magical historical fantasies for children, with a big helping of folklore & gothic vibes, please let me know. #ukkidlit #kidlituk #middlegrade
Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.
ESPECIALLY if you have tenure. Years after I left a toxic grad school situation, I sailed with a member of my former dept. He said he was glad I was doing well now, bc he saw what my old advisor was doing to their students. It was all I could do not to yell 'THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SOMETHING?"
Please. If you see evidence of workplace harassment. Badmouthing of own junior staff, unreasonable expectations, removal or omission from authorship, hostile language, evidence of overworking or distress. Don't walk by. Academic safety nets can't rely on whisper networks set by marginalised people.

Good to see scooters and bicycles blocking my exit from the Brussels-Antwerp train last night. I'm sure that's not dangerous or inconvenient at all.
An all too familiar scenario for @dandyandafop.bsky.social I imagine.
Ah yes the circle of life
