Here's another graphic demonstrating that the planet has already passed 1.5°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, this time using monthly averages, with a prediction to pass 2.0°C by late 2036.

@bbcnews.bsky.social I've never seen so much coverage of the wildfires without a single reference to the role of fossil fuels...🥴
Exactly. There will be no new normal. The weather will keep becoming more extreme until the world decarbonises. We might have the odd calmer year but the trend will be more extreme. So today’s UK weather is the least extreme we can ever expect. Time to finally WAKE UP.
NO! It's going to keep getting hotter year-on-year, decade-by-decade Until we stop pumping out greenhouse gases and positive feedback loops and tipped tipping points have finished with us And the temperature will stay elevated for many thousands of years www.theguardian.com/world/video/...
Serial heatwaves, unprecedented leaps between old and new temperature extremes, mass evacuations - and speechless governments. Because the words they would have to say in their second sentences are “fossil fuels”. And they mostly just cannot. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

Meanwhile, in the UK, a blaze in the Cairngorms national park has been described as ‘very serious’ by Scotland’s first minister

The extreme weather we have now is not the new normal. It’s going to keep getting worse as long as we continue to burn fossil fuels.
So excited to see this! Over 4 episodes I cover the hugely alarming conclusions of the Joint Intelligence Ctte Report, shamefully suppressed by Government, & explore its implications for our food and water security. @nebriefing.bsky.social @climatemajority.bsky.social @chrisgpackham.bsky.social

Nino region 3.4 SST update for June 8. By year's end: a global temperature spike, record floods & droughts, massive heatwaves & storms, global crop failures & famine, wildfires, dead coral and other marine life, inflation and infrasructure collapse. Your mileage may vary.
Breaking New! Code UFB!!! Total fuckery is happening to the sea-surface temperatures in region Nino 3.4:
The three year running average for the global surface temperature anomaly is now more than 1.54°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline. With El Nino ahead, expect this to keep rising over the next two years.

I hope this isn’t true. There are times when it’s more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham’s longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote
Greens suggest they will properly contest byelection in blow to Burnham
Statement follows speculation party would not field candidate in Makerfield or barely fight seat

This is an excellent over view of the dangerous warming period we’ll likely be entering in the next 12 months. Share it widely. Corp news will not acknowledge this increased danger until it’s too late in order to keep markets stable. That is their sole job. open.substack.com/pub/chrisglo...
