There are about a dozen white liberal accounts I check in on, sort of like an informal S&P 500, to see what’s going on with the moderate lifestyle types. And… It. Is. Brutal. Just brutal.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be… The tragic truth is that, as some of us warned a decade ago, mainstream climate science has turned out to be the opposite of alarmist. It has turned out to be complacent and over-optimistic. Truthfulness - and strategic adaptation - are urgent. (Pse repost.)

The 15-year trend runs at 0.42C per decade. The 2026 and 2027 points for the current El Nino are estimates. We're not remotely ready!

1/Wildfire evacuation level 3 for my former house in Spokane. When I lived there, I had a go bag and had the fire department assess our house. Locally folks were not worried about fire. Concern about wildfire smoke varies but this picture from the news shows kids playing soccer with billowing smoke.
Small thing compared to all the events happening in the world but thanks to the Dodgers for wrecking the whole season.
Just to be clear, this will be on top of, subsequent to, the already extreme weather mayhem and record-shattering global temperatures currently.

Here are the daily Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomalies (1991-2020 baseline), from 1982 to present. The latest data from July 31th shows an anomaly just under 2.5°C. It's already the 4th warmest El Nino on record with 3 months of additional heating ahead.

This was the place where people like married veterans & other students who had reasons to live off campus found community at Harvard.
