me: hey do you have this movie I want to watch? Disney: no Netflix: not anymore Apple: ew no CBC Gem: yes and it’s free Prime: maybe I do, maybe I don’t. Maybe it costs $5 for no reason, even though you already pay for this. Maybe you should fuck off into the sun.

I 100% have not changed a single goddamn thing about how I write here in the age of "AI." I write how I write. If the "AI" writes anything like how I write, it's because it stole from me. I'm gonna use any punctuation I like, and if it looks "AI"ish to you, you can go fuck yourself.

Authors and journalists are doing more first-person (hello 2010s blogging) and embracing "mistakes" in writing to prove they're not chatbots. There's even an “anti-Grammarly" app that leaves in typos and signs off "sent from my iPhone" to create more authenticity: www.wired.com/story/more-t...

Another #Ropecon behind us, and a grand one it was! My thanks and admiration to all the volunteers who made it happen, and all my fellow attendees who made it magical. Only 364 days until the next one, give or take.

A convention wouldn't be complete without an appearance from my "Mark's Comics" T-shirt, merchandise from author Drew Melbourne's book "A Dark Hole Darkly", too weird and wonderful to explain in an alt text but let's call this a deeply-nested meta reference. Picture shows a weary-looking unc in a floppy wizard hat with a grey beard (the unc, not the hat), and wearing a snazzy blue shirt (again, the unc not the hat or the beard) reading "Mark's Comics" if it was all in shot and not backwards because it's a selfie, it's me in the shot, I've been talking this whole time, I'm the one holding the pupa (sorry this is another reference)This year my cosplay was "Dark Wizard Deadpool" or I suppose Edpool, featuring a Deadpool mask with horror elements (mainly teeth and tentacles) as well as a floppy wizard hat and magic staff with crystal ball on the end. Hair and beard all natural. The amazing blue-eyed crow is not related or part of my costume, it was another cosplayer dressed as an 8-foot crow walking behind me in this shot just by chance. Anyway it was a great time.

Every now and then, it’s worth saying what ought to be obvious: trans people have always existed, and will exist as long as humans do. They’ve not done anything wrong by wanting their existence recognised, supported, and celebrated. The transformation of their existence into “an issue” is evil.

This amazing artist keeps appearing on my feed so I'm glad something is going right with the algorithm. I am consistently broke, but every time I see these artworks I think to myself "am I *that* broke?" Give Dakota some love!

I see a lot of talk about Mitch McConnell's "I'm not dead" video being A.I., and all I can say is oh look, another thing I don't want A.I. doing. Remember when people believed in the craft, and would hire an identical body double like in the 1993 documentary "Dave" with Kevin Kline? The *craft*.

And for the people still saying they need X for "their brand"? No. You don't, because you're not engaging with people, you're engaging with bots. My following on Bsky is a fraction of what it was on X (at the time I deleted my account, two years ago) and engagement is measurably HIGHER.

Hey all. It's tough times. Nowhere near enough $$$ to make rent next week. I'll be posting all day the different commission options available right now, so if y'all can share as loudly as possible, I'd really appreciate it. I'm also setting a new Ko-Fi goal, if you want to support in other ways

Reminder that in this house we do not trash other genres of books to support the genre we like the most. One, come on, we're grown ups. Two, the bottom line is people reading and loving books. Three, every writer you know has friends working other genres, don't trash their friends, thanks.

Yup. Also, leaving out issues of plagiarism, etc, one relevant question for many creatives is "why introduce into my workflow a purported tool that will add friction and slow things down." If you have skills and a method that works for you, "AI" is generally a drag, not a boost. Time is precious.

I keep seeing the same lie peddled across the visual arts community too. "Most professional artists are using it but too scared to admit it." Fucking no we are not; I have zero interest whatsoever in offloading and atrophying my hard-earned skills to plagiarism systems owned by grifters.

The ability to buy anything on account of having too much money wrecks a person's brain just like a zero-gravity environment destroys muscle mass and bone density. Human bodies are designed for resistance and they liquefy rapidly without it.

Billionaire Marc Andreessen says he has "zero" introspection, and that the idea itself is a modern invention.CNN: Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist and MAGA donor, is in Rome this week for a series of private lectures on the Antichrist. It’s an event that the Vatican, and the pope, are treating with caution.

I love a good genre-bending story and sci-fi / fantasy is absolutely my jam. Get in on this kickstarter and show a fellow indie some love! "Drag Race meets a gay Game of Thrones meets Chronicles of Amber" is just ... yep, that's certainly a statement.
