If we take that at face value the next step is for the UN to pass a resolution declaring the makers of AI to be hostis humani generis ("enemy of humanity"). That would be the predicate under international law to treat them like privates, creating universal jurisdiction to capture and punish them. 🤷♂️

How strongly the institutions push back now matters less for how soon Trump leaves, which is probably going to be in a couple of years regardless, or even how bad he gets, which isn't very responsive to disincentives. It matters a lot for how lawless and authoritarian the next few presidents are.
