Construction to begin on second phase of Esquimalt Road protected bike lanes. The bike and roll lanes portion is 8 percent of the project budget, with underground utilities, paving etc much more, which is normal for multimodal infrastructure upgrades. victoriabuzz.com/2026/08/cons... #yyj #safety

They should build a gated city for ultra-wealthy, where even the garbage collectors and restaurant staff are ultra-wealthy.
What is our government doing? This project defies common sense - this is corporate welfare on a surreal scale, giving a gift to an industry making $90 billion in excess profits this year, and which still refuses to pay for its own infrastructure.
Mark Carney's nation-burning project is stepping on the gas.

And for Canadians across this land, it is a kick in the teeth to call this climate bomb of a project “in the national interest”. It is in Big Oil’s interest for sure.

Terrible news … the Bradley Creek wildfire near Vernon has destroyed hundreds of homes. 30 homes belonging to members of the Okanagan Indian Band are gone, more than 200 non-band member homes were destroyed.
I can't find a better source, but apparently he's suing zionist MP Melissa Lantsman with defamation and she's using this "terrorism" charge to defend herself. Seems newsworthy that a guy suing a prominent politician gets slapped with a Terrorism charge half a year later 🤷 thecjn.ca/news/toronto...

We should have an electoral system where the less money you have, the more votes you get. Any risk the poor would create a system to benefit themselves is avoided by the fact that once they got richer, they'd have less votes.
Biked 1 mile to coffee. Then biked another mile to the pharmacy. Then biked 1 mile home. 95% on protected (separated) bike infra. More Americans deserve the freedom of a life like this (if they want it).
Good candidates are never electable because electability selects for candidates who are not good.
I first got hip to this when hearing from some disability advocates at a DSA meeting years and years ago, who pointed out that every human in America will suffer disabling back pain or joint pain if they don't die first. It's just a question of what affordances are available when it happens.
why do I often put scare quotes around "vulnerable" and "at risk"? because people are *made* vulnerable, and people are *put at-risk"—these are not stable categories. we all live in a state of risk, some more than others, and risk is not distributed evenly. we can all be made vulnerable.
If political therapists existed, they would help us understand root causes of political trauma, to work through it, and help us work on setting boundaries to prevent it happening again.
Pour one out for this school zone speed limit sign asking drivers to go 15 mph on this six lane arterial If you want people to go 15 mph, then the road can't be designed like this

"The idea of society may sound appealing, but it's old men who will take the hit, planting trees under whose shade they might never sit."
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Good bike infrastructure is built for all ages and abilities, including: -a woman in a skirt probably biking for transportation -a man in a full kit on a speedy road bike for exercise -a mom in jorts on a cargo trike with two kids headed to the grocery store

If political therapists existed (perhaps they do?) they might counsel us to cut off our abusive politicians, but the structure of our voting system and institutions prevents us from doing so.
