Daaaamn. “AI is the asbestos we're shovelling into the walls of our technological society. Our descendants will spend generations digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage." www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...
Cory Doctorow: The people who tell you ‘AI is changing everything’ are lying
It has become impossible to tell managers mesmerised by artificial intelligence that the tools are not, in fact, helpful. So employees just play along with the fiction to keep their jobs, writes our t...

The only good thing that I can think of to come out of this war is that he stopped that incessant bragging about all the “wars” he had “ended.”
“Why is nothing working?” my brain just asked, slowly, in Miranda Priestley’s voice, as one thing after another failed to load on my phone.

I've told this story before and I suppose now it's time to do it again. When I was in 9th grade, my English teacher was the elderly sort of man who always wore a gray flannel suit and had a cigarette before class and a cigarette at the end of class every period.
It seems like assigned reading, especially summer reading, should include titles from different genres, with different tones, from different eras. (And as a former sulky Anne Rice-reading teen, I advocate for some over-the-top moodiness in the mix with realistic problem fiction and happier tales.)
One of my best friends is from Kalamazoo and always points to her hand when she tells people where she’s from. I saw this stranger at a bar in Texas and asked her if she was from Kalamazoo. She was like yes, how did you know that? I said I saw her tattoo.
I asked chatgpt and it said it isn't, but then I told it that it is and it said sorry yes it is.
"A.i." is bullshit and literally everyone knows it.
As @katemanne.bsky.social notes, it's reinforcing male entitlement to female deference. If men wallow in AI porn and bots saying "yes, sir," all day, they may react poorly when real women say no. It could lead to violence. katemanne.substack.com/p/a-culture-...
A Culture Hooked on Generative AI is a Culture that Misses Female Sycophants
And we have missed a central reason why AI is a feminist issue

I think it’s absolutely true that cis women and anyone else who dates cis men is forced to figure out EARLY, as a basic survival measure, that a man who comes at you with effusive praise and flattery is likely up to no good. Meanwhile, way fewer straight cis men develop this defense mechanism.
There’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.

Let’s take a look at leaf & flower timing. Synanthy (adj.: synanthous) is when flowers and leaves occur together at the same time. There are lots of good examples of this, as it’s very common. Here’s an example: Magnolia virginiana. #Magnoliaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱 1/4
That "men should be allowed, without judgement or consequence, to do an amount of harm to women and girls that I personally deem acceptable" seems to be a genuine opinion still held by too many people in the year two thousand and twenty six is incredibly grim

Flock’s array of license-plate cameras was built to fight crime. But at least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing it and other systems.
