well, I never expected to be published in a Stanford journal, but the McKnight Foundation asked me write my thesis to the philanthropic world after the MN ICE surge: when there is an emergency, just... give money to people on the ground doing the actual work. as fast as possible. radical, I know.

It took 20 minutes of being on the phone to learn that our local storage facilities’ idea of accessible is putting a black strap on the unit door so you can more easily grab it open or closed. Me: “I can’t physically bend down and lift it up though?” Them: [shrug shrug shrug]

Turns out an echocardiogram can kind of suck if you’re not feeling great and have a slightly (clinically insignificantly) tilty heart + ribs too narrow and close together for the ultrasound probe to fit through. “I’m having trouble locating your heart” is just not a sentence you expect.

"Hallucination" implies conscious experience that chatbots lack. We need another term for the specific kind of error where they make things up out of whole cloth. It's not lying because they don't know anything.

i think it's critical to understand that taiwan is not baby china and is not a freer or more democratic version of china. taiwan is its complicated, multiply colonized, justice-seeking self. it is not interchangeable with china, which is itself an incredibly diverse place.
She's right and it's not even just young folks. There are grown folks who are uncomfortable with journalists asking follow-up questions. It's like people wanna feel like they have access not answers, and they're conflict averse.
