I don’t know if it’s that book, but her “he moved around her area” is the most hilarious sex-writing ever. That and all the references to “her breasts tightening.”

In our next newsletter, I'm going to write about this pernicious race/ranking/leaderboard metaphor that's pervaded everything and put so many people in a quantified, zero-sum mindset that makes everything worse. e.g. There's no AI race. Categories are more arbitrary that we want to believe, etc.

I feel like ‘everyone’s convinced you aren’t dating’ accurately describes a few chapters toward the end of Pride and Prejudice.

my favorite is still the one I got that claimed that it was from Reese Witherspoon, who was happy to announce that her book club was taking a hard pivot from light fiction to instead focus on academic works of history about nuclear weapons

Here's more on different versions of this scam. It is wild (and a policy failure) that essentially our whole electronic lives from cell phones to email are just enshittification and fraud now

Since A Second Sight came out I've received about 2-3 of these scam emails a week. They are not only profoundly annoying but obviously prey on author's passions and attachment to their work. In some cases they impersonate real people at legit organizations.

the whole "women's sports exist to protect women from men" framing is hilarious, given that a lot of these divisions were initially formed because men were deeply embarrassed any time a woman beat them at a sport olympic shooting was mixed gender right up until a woman won the gold

This bears repeating. Navigating SNAP benefits in Georgia was practically a full-time job. One of the things about being poor, doing odd jobs and gig work, is that income changes every week, which doubles the amount of paperwork required. The laws are based on annual income, but the rules aren’t.

any time benefits require paperwork, or even a level of functioning that can accommodate filling out a simple form, people will slip through the cracks. their kids will slip through the cracks. I don't give a shit how easy that single form is. requiring it = kids starving
