After talking to a young writer last night, I want to remind you all that it's okay to write without an assignment or goal. Write to explore a new technique, get an idea out of your head, or as emotional exhalation. Write for the raw joy of it. For you alone. It doesn't need to go into a portfolio

Computers are not Computering correctly today. I may require a second coffee. Or to simply defenestrate all Computering Objects and return to the sea.

This is pretty well known, but the Australian flag Sam Neill wore on his uniform in Event Horizon was designed at his request to show the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal flag, because he hoped in the future this is how it would actually look. A proper fucken ally in every way, this bloke.

Sam Neill on profile in EVENT HORIZON, with a patch on his jacket that shows the Australian flag but with the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal flag, because fuck colonialism and Sam knew that this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land

Oh GODDAMNIT no! This is making me tear up. Going to re-watch Death in Brunswick tonight. I reckon my date will be into it. She has good taste, and we need to pour one out for this legend.

Death in Brunswick. Sam Neill, young and with a big shit-eating grinn on his face, prepares to throw a dart while John Clarke, another Kiwi legend who moved to Aus to continue a great career, lights a cigarette while staring seriously at the off-camera dart board.

We killed Strahd. Took two calendar years to do it. Rest in piss, you old dead bitch. He asked “Are you really doing to die for all those tiny creatures down there?” & I replied “Someone is.”. I’ve been rolling so many 2s and 3s tonight, but I did fireball that fucker for 26 damage and blew his eyebrows off. He canonically used a legendary action to grow them back.

Horrible new bullshit from the sea every time. It’s never ‘oh we found a new pink fish that is so happy’ it’s always stuff like this, the crush-depth screw-headed dongwongler, and it’s got to have big long creepy bits. Sick of the ocean tbh.

It’s wild how friends of mine now hitting middle age who used to be into video games are dominantly into sport. Not a criticism. Just something I cluelessly thought wouldn’t happen to my generation.

I’m not saying PlayStation retiring disc versions of games is the end of console gaming or something (PC survived the death of physical media) but it’s certainly the latest in a fucking conga line of reasons why I’m falling out of love with gaming.

Jesus, can you hear me? Good, the comms are working. Now, you're gonna need to run if you want to evade those Roman soldiers. Hold down A to sprint. Go ahead and try it. ... Good work! You just might be the savior yet. Now pick up that AR-15 and let's do some target practice.

GTA VI is up for pre-order in my timezone. Nice! Except, y'know, there's no physical edition, really. And pre-ordering gives you... the ability to pre-load it in early November. And they're not exactly going to run out of digital copies so... why bother until closer to November?
