In 100 years the world is going to be vegan because either we have collapsed the environment and the few hundred million surviving humans are not able to spare the land and resources to feed animals... Or we chose to be vegan because you know... All the facts support that 😂

A dark moment in the history of emergency management. A turning away from the last twenty years of building a legitimate profession. A complete dismissal of all we no from experience and research about what kind of leadership is needed for effective emergency management. apnews.com/article/fema...

Senate confirms Hamilton to lead FEMA and clears more than 70 other Trump nominees

A whole lot of dense smoke, from a whole lot of big fires, has spread across the Western 2/3 of the contiguous United States this evening. This has already been an extraordinary fire season in the Pacific Northwest & portions of the Great Basin/Rockies--and it continues.

Deleted and reposted this because I realized the wording in my original social post (not the video/article thank god!!) was misleading — more than 1300 federal gov officials met with oil and gas lobbyists during Carney’s first year as PM. I had said “Carney’s government” met with them.

As Canada burns, floods, and deals with other impacts of the climate crisis, I keep asking: WHY is Carney doubling down on fossil fuels?? Well, @environmentaldefence.ca just gave us a HUGE clue: the federal government met with fossil fuel lobbyists more than 1300 times in Carney’s first year as PM.

1856: Eunice Foote shows CO2 emissions cause global warming. 1954: Oil industry’s own research proves they’re cooking the planet. 2022: Explicit fossil fuel subsidies reach $1.5 TRILLION. 2026: The world burns as Big Oil earn $93 BILLION in 3 months. Trajectory of a suicidal civilization.

And climate experts still, in the year of our dead lord 2026, aren't pointing out that self-interested economics will only serve to make AGW impossibly intractable. But don't be a doomer. Their wins are a fucking great thing. But not real climate wins. Yet. Only some doors opening.

El-Sayed, Lawrence and McKinney all won progressive campaigns in Michigan last night by talking about climate and clean energy like it was a kitchen-table issue — because skyrocketing energy bills and endless wildfire smoke matter to people.

Beef is the top single cause of deforestation globally, by far. Next come oilseeds, especially soy and palm, but the vast majority of those is fed to livestock - chicken, pigs, dairy cows. We can't have our planet and eat it! We urgently need to shift diets away from animal-based foods.

Our World in Data@ourworldindata.org · 6d ago

The largest cause of deforestation is, and has been, the expansion of farmland. But the production of which products, in particular, has been driving this in recent decades? A recent study, published in Nature Food by Chandrakant Singh and Martin Persson, answered this question.

Recently people in central Ohio where large populations of Haitian migrants live have noticed an increased amount of ICE vehicles around their areas. In Columbus, OH there was a noise demo outside the hotel ICE was staying in until around midnight when their check out was scheduled for 6am.

Poster for the noise demo that reads "No sleep for ICE Noise Demonstration Columbus, OH, tonight August 1st @ 9Pam large group of out-of-state agents are in town for TPS operations beginning this week in Columbus and Springfrield Hampton Inn Suites in Polaris 8411 Pulsar Pl"

🤯🍔 Did you know that producing *one pound* of beef releases as much greenhouse gas pollution as burning 25-50 pounds of coal? And producing grass-fed beef is even worse? We gotta rethink our high levels of beef consumption...

Red meat production accounts for 30% of global food-related emissions but generates only 5% of dietary calories or 2% of the global protein supply. That's why Project Drawdown researcher @enviroem.bsky.social calls it the coal of the food system: https://bit.ly/4x2yGnz
