Wild: the Texas ‘censorship bot—officially known as the Course Content Review Process—ordered a Tech philosophy professor to remove Plato’s Republic from a syllabus because “it references Plato’s beliefs concerning gender roles and homosexuality.”’

After years of championing "free speech," Texas lawmakers have enabled a dramatic rise of censorship in Texas universities, banning concepts, canceling courses and closing departments seen as "woke," and even using AI bots as censors. All in the name of freedom. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

In other professors’ syllabi, the bot flagged the Pulitzer Prize–winning play Angels in America by Tony Kushner, essays by the Mexican American MacArthur genius grant recipient Sandra Cisneros, and materials related to a class about the Holocaust (that professor was told to drop material regarding Nazi persecution of LGBTQ people).

Putting aside the ideological slant of the new rules, the bot, like many large language models, seems to “hallucinate,” or make mistakes. The AAUP lawsuit lists texts banned for their “sex-based ecofeminist framework” and “gendered ecofeminist frameworks.” These phrases might sound persuasively like academese, but the academics behind the lawsuit had never heard of them; these concepts “do not exist,” the complaint says. Matthew Pehl, a history professor at Tech, told me that he knew several people who’d received reports from the system that were “plainly written by an AI that had hallucinated content or confused content from one class to another.”

I know the feed is bleak, but please have a brand new lamb picture. I wasn’t expecting this one, and he might be a premie, but his mom is great and he is eating well.

A little white lamb.

I prefer Ai because most of the time the upper case i just looks like a lower case L so I read it as a dude’s name which make me think, “What has Al done this time?”

I don’t have strong feelings about Waymos one way or another, but it’s funny to start seeing San Diego drivers getting mad at them for obeying traffic laws.

Squirrels on suicide missions have knocked out power to Castle Rock, Colorado twice this week. Our investigation has revealed a century of squirrel attacks covered up by the pro-squirrel media.

DC sites, throwback to 9/18/2013, back when the reflecting pool reflected and the Monument had Eiffel-like scaffolding for earthquake repairs …. From an early AM jog to work:

Stop calling this a DC makeover. This is an illegal desecration of our capital and a huge waste of American families’ money. DC is sacred ground, and we shouldn’t minimize the real damage being done.

Seen in DC 9/14/26: passionflower vine at Wangari gardens. Native to the mid Atlantic area, they grow like crazy, their leaves have some properties include helping with sleep, and their fruits are delicious!
