Autism is taking normal enthusiasm and dousing it with gasoline until you're god-tier excited and then wondering why no one else is vibrating with joy like you are.

The David Lynch quote isn't "Let me change your heart or we can discuss accountability"
If someone is doing real damage and demonstrates a sustained lack of interest in accounting for it then, imo, the time for talking about “accountability” is over. Then it’s time for talking about how to best attack and undermine their power to do that damage. Changing their heart is not a factor.
Additional scripts for cis het white men who want to be better allies: “What a weird thing to say” “Do you hear yourself right now?” “You shouldn’t say shit like that to people” “I won’t let you talk to them that way” “That’s a disgusting opinion to have” “Shut the fuck up, dude”
Cis men truly need to understand the power of saying “that’s fucked up bro why would you say that” to another cis man
& learn to walk the dark again (haptics of gradient & turn firming up almost 9 months here), spare headlamp for moon (upper right rubbing away already) & it candles on the lochan (mallards burbling somewhere, kwik & quibble of tawny owl), dandelion clock running slow in final phase
Paint me like one of your dead medieval knights.
This is a very jaunty tomb. Anyone know the story of this pose?
We can spend our lives debating the justifications (I more or less have); but we are wasting our time. What we need is a massive clampdown on the influence of money over politics, including lobbying transparency, campaign finance reform, an end to the revolving door between politics and lobbying.
"The idea that debate leads to policy outcomes is a fiction designed to create an impression of democratic consent"
That’s because the decision has already been made. The issue being debated is merely the post-hoc justification. Where decisions happen and where debate happens are different places. The idea that debate leads to policy outcomes is a fiction designed to create an impression of democratic consent.
Here is how politics, in most cases, works: Rich and powerful interests, whether in fossil fuels, finance, big tech, media, meat, pharma or foreign governments, make a demand, and use their sophisticated tools to persuade a government to adopt it. The government adopts it. Please read whole🧵
fun fact: you don't have to continue pretending to like your family if they're assholes this is all part of a paternalistic authoritarian mindset where you must obligate yourself to people who treat you like belongings and not humans
it's literally a thing that children (both juveniles and adults) will DEFEND their parents, will seek to protect them even from their own negative feelings. for an adult child to totally cut off a parent? do you know how many hopes of "maybe this time will be different" must have been dashed?
People want to have parents. WHEN IT'S AN OPTION, my experience is that the adult child is willing to meet their parents halfway. We give them space to get better because we want that for them and for ourselves. They just have to make some new choices.
Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Also you need a culture of reading to exist before a market for reading can exist and that is what libraries create very efficiently
Libraries BUY books. Unlike tech companies wot steal them. Also: PLR! The Public Lending Right scheme meaans authors in the uk and ireland and a few other places get money for each library loan!
If you genuinely believe that libraries negatively impact book sales, I don't even know what to say to you.

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of chatting with the fabulous Iain Maloney and Jason Emde for an episode of their brilliant podcast Books About Bands ✨ It should be out in Nov and I’ll share more then... Meanwhile, there's loads of episodes available now: booksaboutbands.buzzsprout.com

a strange, uncanny dusktime: light refracted & gauzy, sun nimbused - smoke from Canadian arctic fires, the news says, arriving over the Atlantic, makes for hazy & soft gloam, temperatures falling quickly
That attack was the most horrific event. I think about it all the time and the lives lost. It was also scary afterwards just like it is now to be a brown person.
Even in Canada my friends and I were afraid to take transit. Brown people were getting verbally attacked, told to back to our countries. Temples and Mosques were being vandalized and set on fire. I am still always set aside for the extra search/bomb rub down at the airport.
wild, because me and mine did not have this shared experience. the fact that you don’t recognize the intense racism that proliferated post-9/11 tells me you can’t see the current political situation clearly, either.
...in this article, I discuss this recurring phenomenon (of ppl who have been "touched" by transness in some way, who then hyper-vigilantly strive to "purge" it) and why I think it happens: juliaserano.medium.com/anti-trans-g...
Fucking hell, gobsmacked by this. The Skinny’s been such a supportive part of the Scottish arts landscape for about as long as I’ve lived here, it’s bizarre to think it won’t be any longer. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

Somehow, it does not feel like a coincidence that a lot of the panic about the autism diagnosis being overly broad or too many people being diagnosed came just as more #ActuallyAutistic women received a diagnosis. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ar...

More women are getting answers later in life, and researchers think there may be a reason why.
