Thanks. Yes, that's what I was trying to say, but took too long to get there. Our politics community is strong, and I'd love for us to expand into new communities. Science and sports have already taken off. Birding, gardening, K-pop, we're open to all (except nazis and jerks).

people love a "Chinese versus American" story so much. Zhong Shu has had all her education since high school in the US and is doing a PhD in political philosophy (specialisation in classics) in an American university.

It’s one of the big breakdown in both historical & sociological popular understanding. Most people think: ‘oh, I know it’s not real, so I should treat it like it’s unreal.” Whereas a seasoned hand will go, “While I don’t believe in it, they did, and they acted as though it was real, making it so.”

there's a lot of people across the political spectrum who simply cannot process the fact that ethnicity is a social construct, that many ethnicities did not exist within the lifetime of living people, and that nevertheless ethnicity is an extremely real thing that ppl will kill or die for
