World's leading SFF book community! Posts by 🏹 @kitvaria.bsky.social & 🐉 @jennieivins.bsky.social. Lover of books. Hater of trolls. No AI. Probably not a real dragon. ;) http://fantasy-faction.com/

Disclaimer: This thread will include an AI image & I'm just as unhappy about it as you are. -JI🐉 Today is August 4 2026 the date mentioned in Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rain": the day when the world is destroyed. It's an amazing story and you should read it. That is not why I am posting.

One of the things I got to see at GenCon was the cover art for the next issue of the Mag of F&SF, which holds my story "From Hell's Heart I Reach to Thee." It's one of my best (IMO) and I'm so stoked that it's going out into the world soon.

ICYMI: @powjay.bsky.social reviews @scalzi.com's When the Moon Hits Your Eye! - JI 🐉 "The character work was really fun. A variety of people who all react in such different ways to this shocking and potentially life-threatening phenomenon." fantasy-faction.com/2025/when-th... #booksky 💙📚🪐

The book cover sits in the center of the image. It shows the an astronaut standing on the surface of the moon taking a selfie. But the moon has been replaced by a giant moon-shaped piece of Swiss cheese. The rest of the cover is a sky full of stars. The background of the image is a close up photo of a piece of Swiss cheese.

And another one by @powjay.bsky.social ! Sorry for the avalanche of posts, I was not online the last few days... A variety of people who all react in such different ways to this shocking and potentially life-threatening phenomenon. fantasy-faction.com/2025/when-th... 💙📚🪐 #FantasyFaction

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi

"The world is too full of living, breathing magic to choose GenAI over human art." Fantasy-Faction is proudly anti-GenAI, and will never knowingly post anything made by a non-human entity. (Unless robots or animals gain sentience or we make first contact with aliens or another dimension.) #booksky

The image shows a photo from inside Antelope Canyon in Arizona. The viewer is looking up at a night sky full of stars. The opening in the cave makes a reverse S-shape bisecting the image from top to bottom. Across the image is the text from the post.

P.S. I would still like for people to read THE BUTCHER OF THE FOREST and then look at themselves and be like "I am 30 or 40 years old and I do not need to be the protagonist of a fairytale horror story in a magical forest" us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

The Butcher of the Forest

"A perfect mix of horror and fantasy."—The New York Times“The Butcher of the Forest” shows exactly why Mohamed is one of fantasy’s rising stars."—T...

It's that time of the month again. Which means another newsletter is on the way - hopefully coming on Friday. It'll be a shorter one than usual, but at least it'll happen. I'll talk about books I read, writing updates, and more!

Well, I say, watching my protagonist pilot an enormous tanker full of mechanical octopuses down a river while having fever dream flashbacks, I guess this is one of those books where I write to discover what happens next.

Loot that drops after defeating me. -JI🐉 - a tiny, glow-in-the-dark, plastic dragon - enough Lucky Charms marshmallows to cause concern - way too many .docx files with ‘final’ in the title - a very sharp chef's knife - a music player (format randomized) - a stack of fantasy mass market paperbacks

Loot that drops after defeating me. -a bag of holding filled with dog treats -a collection of assorted dragons -a confusingly large quantity of sand. - a large bunch of unusual culinary herbs - 8 open scrivener files of different projects. -a flurry of D&D notes and character sheets - limes.

What's the opposite of doom scrolling? Like good scrolling but it's still a bad idea? Cause I'm seeing cool books and cute animals and authors posting great news, but it's 2am and I should be in bed... - JI 🐉
