Palantir hoovering up European defence and NHS contracts whilst funnelling earnings back to the US to pay negligible corporate tax is a complete failure of digital sovereignty. European states must stop enriching tech firms that drain public coffers. Is it time to ban them? #FBPE

A new study finds that Palantir, which boasts of high profit margins in the U.S., barely scrapes a margin in Europe, which helps slash its tax bill.

- We believe in second chances! - So you think refugees deserve a second chance at making a life? - Not like that - Young people who’ve made mistakes shouldn’t be punished? - Nope - Benefits to help people get back on their feet? - Ha! - So who do you believe in second chances for? - Nazis!
'So we've heard the concerns of the Jewish community about standing a convicted neo-Nazi anti-semite as a local candidate and decided to give him a national job instead...'
Apparently, Badenoch believes that everyone deserves another chance to make things Reich.
Amazing.
Fucking fuck's sake man what in God's name is the fucking matter with you? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

But they seemed like such nice, patriotic, community-minded chaps. (Except the ones currently facing murder, child abuse & assault charges, obviously.)
Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.
If this had been written as satire 10/15 years ago people would have thought it was too ludicrous. Humanity is speedrunning its own destruction.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on rockets crashing into the moon: "It's not a big deal right now. The moon has clearly seen better days."
“I’m staying in the race because, thanks to President Trump paving the groundwork, sexual assault and violence against women is widely and openly accepted now, so there’s really no reason to drop out.”
TAPPER: Hold on -- hold on, 'cause I'm not done with the list of women who have accused you of violence. Are all three of them lying? REP. MAX MILLER: Yes. And I'm not getting out of the race because in 2016, President Donald J Trump faced the most extreme allegations in the world ...
sometimes there is absolutely nothing more fun than understanding works of art through people's varied professional perspectives
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
The Telegraph are now searching Bluesky for things to be offended by while listing all the awful things one of their reporters did.
They linked to me in that Telegraph article about Rod Liddle ffs. I didn't even warrant a name, just 'transgender activist'. At least they called me 'he'. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08...
This is truly jaw dropping and I just keep thinking would this sort of candidate have been allowed to stand ten years ago - probably not - so what does that say about our politics?
I'd only notice because I'd stop getting annoyed every time it pops up when I'm trying to do something. Clippy was less annoying.

Guys like this don’t realize that they are the freak
Happy birthday to an actual President, Barack Obama. 💙
It’s disgusting for the Conservatives to ask Jewish groups to meet their ex-neo-Nazi candidate, presumably in the hope he will charm them and they’ll offer their blessing. They should not expect Jewish people to sanitise this appalling choice. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Tories offer Jewish groups meeting with ex neo-Nazi activist candidate
Joshua Bonehill-Paine was jailed over neo-Nazi activism, but has been selected to stand in a new Somerset Council seat in 2027.

gah, this is the bit I hate - I never use AI products and very much go out of my way to never interact with anything produced by AI (I'm not even on Linkedin!) so it will....make me worse at weeding it out of my life in the future? I just want to opt out! why can't I be allowed to opt out!
Stunning opening sentence to this piece www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
A name so on the nose even Dickens would blush.
If you don’t know the history of Bonehill-Paine, do check him out. It’s quite remarkable.
We are in the third drought in five years. We have the National Trust and NFU - those radical types - sounding the alarm on unprecedented temperatures. But so little from any single figure in politics talking about the climate crisis.
Neo-nazi criminals welcome in the Tory Party but not people concerned about climate change or supportive of net zero (as per their last manifesto). Conservatism is dead in the UK.
Multiple convictions including assaulting a police officer and a three year prison sentence for racially aggravated harassment of an MP. And she's defending his appointment
This would be the front page of every paper and subject of every current affairs radio show if a left wing party had done it. As it stands I doubt we'll even see the gushing about Badenoch's political judgement slow down.
British politics is deeply unwell
So Badenoch would recruit a neo-Nazi but *not* someone who didn’t want to leave the ECHR or someone who supported our NetZero commitments. Second chances for this guy but not Dominic Grieve. The Tory party is truly wretched. It’s screwed the country, betrayed its own and lost its tiny mind.
Abuser Max Miller using abuser Donald Trump to justify his own extreme abuse describes the state in affairs in the US. We will never recover as a nation.

Holding placards is terrorism but this isn't?!

The UK has existed as a state since 1801. The current borders of the UK have been in place since 1922. Do Reform UK politicians NOT know the basics of UK history?
It is appalling that low lifes like Lowe get any media attention other than contempt. That this racist bigot and his deplorable party get any votes at all is a stain on this country.
I just can’t believe we’re seeing this sort of stuff from a sitting MP Just want to say to British Somalis that you are loved and I’m so, sorry this is happening.
Why have something like the NHS when America can have tacky gold statues and be at war?!
MacFarlane: We are near the new gold-plated statues the Trump administration unveiled near Memorial Circle, Memorial Bridge, and the Lincoln Memorial. It’s really, really gold.…
I think this confuses the private person, who can be mourned by friends, family and colleagues, and the public figure, whose legacy can be assessed based on his work. These are two different things and they have to coexist
I am saddened by the tone of commentary in this place about my former BBC colleague. The level of vitriol seems more suited to the other place. I worked with Rod at the Today programme. He took no prisoners, but he was witty and personally capable of genuine warmth. My sympathy to his family.

This Film often has the piss taken out of it for being a rather sedentary piece about 2 people just talking a lot — BUT — it has one of the most brilliantly prescient monologues in the history of Movies imho. MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981) Have a listen.
There was a lot of great World Cup posts on here, following the games and dissecting them. Have started to see more gardening stuff too.
