It's not just Google Maps. AllTrails put genAI into their system last year and it has screwed everything up so badly I would never use it for hiking, purely for safety reasons. Some things require long years of practical, experiential knowledge. Walking in the 'wilderness' is one of those things.

i think one of the biggest underlinings in just how bad the western industry has been about its own legacy is like. myst isnt just an old game. it was final fantasy vii before final fantasy vii. it was that fucking huge.

Just then a stampede of squirrels and chipmunks and rabbits and horses which was a surprise to me because I’d never seen a horse around here in my five years came exploding out of the trees and into unto onto the dune brush and down the steep decline and with them the seagrass was soon on fire with the friction and 70 then came the laggard mice and rats and some stray dogs who were too dumb to know what to do. They were having a blast these dogs. Just to be around everyone. Smelling everything and so dumb and unafraid. Digging big holes for nothing. Looking around for approval that wasn’t forthcoming. I envied them for a moment. I wished that that were me and later it was more or less. The horses reached the water first obviously and I thought where did these horses come from seriously where and they plunged into the surf with a big chunk of elegant wet muscle and then all the other pathetically slow animals caught up to them including the dad and his kids and they all hurled themselves into the water too one after the other and I hated their slowness. Their heartbreaking slowness. I thought of a diminished crowd cheering for the last person to finish a city marathon. The condescending applause. How their sloth sickens you. How you want to throttle them behind the clapping. The animals were crashing into the ocean and the helicopters were crashing into the ocean after that and their propellers were rotating underwater upside down churning and churning and then the hotel was crashing into the ocean and then the ocean was crashing into everything and I was floating toward the monuments and I would never stop floating for as long as I lived.
