I like history. Horses are also cool.

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

So grateful for this fantastic Booklist review for An Inconvenient Woman! “Historian Merritt’s insightful, engaging narrative effortlessly folds in family anecdotes and excerpts…This well-documented and perceptive tribute aptly humanizes a visionary and fearless woman.”😍😍😍

I realize the Europeans have largely gone to bed, but: I got bitten by a dog yesterday and had a bad reaction to it and ended up throwing up all night last night. My wife made me go to the emergency room; I've gotten IV fluids and an abdominal ultrasound. This is what I had to pay. I have insurance.

As a Religious Studies professor, this directly targets my livelihood in a way that makes a mockery of any supposed profession of concern the administration has ever expressed for me as a Jewish person on campus.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

1/ We're back with our New York public health update for the week. First up, Covid is starting to increase again in New York. Hospitalizations remain low, but wastewater, ER visits, and hospital admissions are all beginning to trend upward, suggesting a summer wave is underway.

If you didn't grow up in this very bizarre subculture, reading this will probably explain a lot of what's going on with white Christian nationalism's recent ability to dominate politics by manipulating people who call Jesus their savior.

In the 90s and 00s, churches invested millions in youth group, creating a parallel universe for christian teenagers to grow up in and, eventually, change the world. That was the plan anyway. What happened? My first cover story for @sojo.net.

Yep. I suspect that the current version of this mediocrity-to-hatemonger pipeline has roots in the 90s/00s Christian entertainment scene. Lots of musicians & filmmakers tried to make it, failed b/c they were bad artists, then cried persecution & made a killing off of evangelicals. Same game.

After a middling WNBA career, blonde haired, blue eyed Sophie Cunningham has positioned herself for post-basketball success and riches as a conservative mouthpiece. This is the pattern that always works because conservatives are very very dumb and will latch onto anyone who promotes hate.

i once sat in my ambulance with a patient for 10 hours because there were no ER beds because there were no beds available anywhere in the hospital we ran through every O2 tank we had and the hospital was so low on O2 tanks that they couldn’t give us a new one

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

Hating life at the moment for putting me in the unfortunate position of needing help. It's a really crappy feeling to be in this position, but here I am. Over the last 6 years, my body has been kicking my ass in every conceivable way and it has taken a toll on our lives. ko-fi.com/johnniejae#s...
