The “opt out” scam should never have been allowed as a business practice. Companies are given a license to steal, abuse, and violate so long as there’s a secret hidden form allowing us to object after they’ve already done it. The immense amount of legal privilege involved is fucking disgusting.

It’s fucked up that you have to opt *out* of platforms feeding your data to their Alleged Intelligences and it’s equally as fucked up that we’re expected to accept mass identity theft as a usual, acceptable occurrence when even the companies doing it know we’d never agree to such violation upfront.

Heart-stopping environmental destruction by Google in Finland 850 forest acres Google felled 250,000 trees like they scrape data, ravenously and illegally stripping the entire area–including top soil. “We had wolves coming into the village because all the wild animals moved out of the forest.”

I feel like there's a cohort of us who got on the internet before "social media" and made all sorts of healthy friendships through forums or livejournal or what have you and thus, while everyone's like SOCIAL MEDIA FUELS COMPARISON AND MISERY we're like, but that's just where my friends live.

Without the online friends I’ve made over the years, some of whom have become offline friends (even recently!), I would be a much, much lonelier person. Social media feels evil sometimes, but it makes some miracles too.

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.

OK guys this is my perfect lazy weeknight dinner and it’s SO quick and SO easy and you probably have ALL the ingredients in your cabinets RIGHT now. So first we start with Madagascar vanilla paste and salmon foam
