A reminder: 🚗: I hope I find parking. 🚴🏽♂️: I hope I don’t die. Our priorities are not the same.

If you're in Naarm/Melbourne, there'll be a multi-choir, community singing gathering to commemorate Hiroshima Day on the steps of the Victorian State Library at 12-1 PM today, 6 Aug SING FOR PEACE All welcome to join in

I hope Vic State Library makes tonight's interview of Amy Remeikis by Hannah Ferguson available online for all to watch as it was phenomenal. So many takeaway messages but essentially: nice doesn't not equal good/decent. Being nice doesn't fix all the shittiness in the world. Be an active ally.
Good morning Bluesky ☀️ My grandad told me he saw the Titanic - from the outset he warned all the people that the ship would sink, but nobody listened to him. He knew he was right and didn't give up. He warned them again & again, until eventually they kicked him out of the cinema.
“…self determination…”? You mean, like a Voice?
Halfway through Closing the Gap Agreement: 3 of 19 targets on track, 4 getting worse. The Productivity Commission’s 2026 report is blunt about why — self-determination works where allowed to. Justice & child protection are where governments have refused to let go blakandblack.com/2026/08/05/t...
A threesome? Too much going on at once. I can’t even back out of the driveway while the radio’s on.
Me: *does the robot* Interviewer: I meant skills related to the job.
“…according to The RBA's 2025 Consumer Payments Survey, for the first time in decades, cash use has increased, albeit slightly…Payments under $10 continued to be the most popular size of cash transaction.” Cash payments are untraceable & cash can be given to those in need.
For the first time in decades, cash use in Australia has increased
A new report has found cash use has dropped by more than 50 per cent in almost 20 years. But there has been a slight increase in cash payments since 2022.

I played squaredle.com 08/04. I rarely manage to get all the words, even on the less difficult games. Today, though, 40/40 words (+11 bonus words).

Genius. Today I learnt that Gina Rinehart's private jet has been nicknamed the Please Explane
Anne Frank was arrested on this day in 1944. History rarely returns wearing the same uniform, it returns asking the same thing of ordinary people: Will you sit down and look away? Or will you stand up and fight? #Resist
"Bluesky is a political echo chamber" okay but I'm mostly here to chat with fun internet people and post art and make jokes, I cannot stress how much I don't care
Who else remembers Epic Theatre on a Saturday afternoon? This was one of the films they broadcast.
Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts are amazing even now. He animated the sequence by himself for more than four months -- without computers or even an easy way to check his work. We're looking into how he did it: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/how-ray-ha...
Left work just before 4pm, got home just after 8:30pm. Part of that was me choosing to wander in the city for a while but honestly, not sure if I would have made it back any quicker if I’d waited for the replacement bus. Once I decided to join the queue, it still took me 30 minutes+ to get on board.
Damn! Major disruptions on my train line, upsetting not just me. 😏 100s and 100s of us told to take the 86 tram partway, then a local bus. Apparently that could be quicker than waiting in the rain for replacement busses. Plan B for me…coffee and a salad to give others a chance. #PTV #Melbourne3000
Accidentally had avocado toast for lunch instead of paying my mortgage again.

Echo the Australian magpie annoying a tuxedo cat named Gilbert in Thames, New Zealand. The pair are known to be friends, though the magpie is often described as an annoying sibling that frequently pushes limits. They are part of a group called "Tuxedoes Unite" located in Karangahake, New Zealand.
Man! It’s shawl week for #showmeyourknits and I’m nowhere near done with my very first shawl project. Oh well. A WIP photo will have to do. I really need to have this done when the weather turns because I love it so much :)

TFW housing prices begin to marginally drop, and the business press absolutely loses its shit, having a toddler meltdown, rage shitting and spit crying

I can’t believe it. All my childhood punishments have become my adult goals. • Eating vegetables • Staying home • Having a nap • Going to bed early
A serious question: given that the Age, Guardian, and ABC were locked out of the One Nation press conference, why would those outlets cover the conference in any way? Yes, it's newsworthy, but ONP are expressing a clear preference not to be covered by those journalists, so what's right?
