What Black people think does not matter to them, how Black people have used the term and how we understand it does not matter to them. They don’t have any use for the opinions of Black people because they don’t think Black people’s thoughts hold any value.
this is a pretty wild exchange with someone seemingly in a moderator position
I have seen several independent candidates receive endorsements from questionable people and orgs and be evasive or give different answers about it depending on who's asking. I think coalition building is great and I also think you have to know who is with you on values and who isn't.
You can just look people up and see what political campaigns in IL they've given too. Lisa Madigan apparently only likes Raoul Kwame enough to donate to, for instance.
www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisc... is also still up.
Lowered it again today. Feels incredible. “Should I block this stranger with several mutuals just because they seem like an annoying blowhard?” Of course. Don’t even think about it man
i'm preparing for the midterm elections by dramatically lowering the threshold for how annoying you have to behave for me to block you

How do I make the loan scammers go away. It's from a different number/location every time. 3 or 4 times a day with this. This is the only thing the phone app does now.
I'm on a text based social media platform, why would I read anything
I was admiring the beauty of the prairie too hard and not paying close enough attention to the single track. I was riding so I fell off my bike today. Sore hand and ankle, but beautiful prairie.
Pivoting from plans to boat tonight because my partner's work is holding her late and currently drinking on the Riverwalk. Soon, dining on the Riverwalk and people watching continues.
“I believe that this is a failed project already. We have too many police officers in these roles.”
NEW: Meltdowns, threats & FOP influence have marred the fight for civilian police accountability in Chicago. Some police district councilors question the future of the body they serve on as they battle CPD interests to get things done. The fault lines run deep. From @zoetakaki.bsky.social:
If you wanna spend $2.25b on transit capital projects can think of other ways that would be far more impactful than repeating service that already exists.
Just a reminder you too can be a weird little freak and a positive presence in your community. Nothing is stopping you but you
If you have a podcast related to Chicago specifically, Illinois generally, that has recently come out or is on the horizon, I'm interested in knowing about it: kprout@chicagoreader.com.

*rips bong hit* Tech workers have more in common with factory workers than they do executives and they’re deluding themselves if they believe otherwise.
What’s your most *rips bong hit* socialist take? I very nearly said “fear of crime is a bourgeois excess” in a normal conversation about travel, for example
Today at awesome foundation we talked with E'mon Lauren about her project to do pop up personal poems in a laundromat in back of the yards for whoever showed up. She took pictures and typed poems and it sounds like it was a blast. As ever thanks to @beermiscuous.bsky.social for the space.
it's wild how the lakefront trail is one of man's greatest creations

On top of everything else, this is terrible politics The only economic message worse than "shut up you're fine" in 2024 is the 2026 message "we will demonstrate over and over again our complicity with the administration you are blaming for your economic struggle"
House Dems, April: we must investigate Kushner's "staggering conflicts of interest" House Dems Speaker, August: I will not confirm meeting with him but if I did we must seek "common ground" with him as our top priority is the cost of living democrats-judiciary.house.gov/media-center...

DuSable Lake Shore Drive should be closed 11 p.m.-sunrise. It’s a park, isn’t it?
Learning the hard way my first aid kit doesn't have Imodium.
Why is the Washington St bike lane through the west Loop still so unprotected? This is the “best” bike route from Fulton Market to points east 🧵
