The modern Republican Party has completed its transformation into antebellum Democrats. A party of insane white supremacist aristocrats supported by broke rubes who can feel superior about the circumstances of their birth and nothing more. No merit top to bottom

LOMBARDO: So I know the pastor spoke about Officer Abdelnabi-- TRUMP RALLY CROWD: *Boooooo* LOMBARDO: No. We're not booing him. He's the officer that passed away here recently

Sending love to my Arab and Muslim friends right now. I see the Islamophobia and racism you're experiencing right now. It's not okay. And this Jewish woman says you're awesome and I'm proud to stand with you. (The only thing I'm mad about is not being able to vote for Mamdani OR El-Sayed.)

The conventional wisdom is the Democrats' big climate law failed to deliver votes and then died. That's wrong. My new study finds its factories moved 2.5 million votes—more than Trump's margin. And the law's still alive. My latest in @theatlantic.com. Gift link! www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Bidenomics Was More Successful Than People Think

Conventional wisdom holds that Joe Biden’s bet on climate investment was a bust. The data suggest otherwise.

Your little oopsie "mistakes" had me worrying for a year of my life about my partner going to jail for up to a decade based on lies likely fed to you by the top of the federal government. Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.

We will win in November because nothing beats a face-to-face conversation, and we've got the ground game to reach voters where they're at. While Tom Barrett collects checks from corporate PACs and passes tax breaks for billionaires, we will fight for working class Michiganders.

Three lions held at the Tokyo Zoo have died from heat stroke. Four lions remain so ill that they're unable to stand up. The average heat index in Tokyo in July was 110°. We’re just 1.4C of global heating, but on track for 3C in the next few decades. All life on Earth is in mortal danger.

In mid-July, the zoo's lions began exhibiting symptoms of appetite loss and reduced physical activity - possible symptoms of heat stroke. By July 22, 10 of the facility's 16 lions were showing such severe symptoms that they required treatment.
Despite the zookeepers' efforts to cool the lions with sprayed water and to replenish lost fluids with intravenous drips, 3-year-old Mugi died on July 28, followed by I1-year-old Ichigo on July 31, then 15-year-old Ruena on Aug. 2.
On Monday, the zoo said that four of the lions who had been unwell had shown signs of recovery, but that three remained so ill that they were unable to stand. "We are continuing to administer intravenous fluids, liver tonics, and vitamins, as well as treating their pressure sores," the zoo's statement said.
According to Japanese meteorological authorities, the maximum daily temperatures in Tokyo averaged 90 degrees in the month of July. But when the month's average humidity level of 77 percent was accounted for, the average heat index, a measure of how hot it really felt, rose to over 110 degrees.

ICE has now spent over $2.2 BILLION on purchasing 4 private prisons from CoreCivic, with the company banking half a billion dollars on the most recent sale. Of course, ICE will not actually operate these facilities; CoreCivic keeps the contracts to run these places for the foreseeable future.

Los Angeles is in the worst housing crisis in our city’s history. We cannot solve that crisis unless we build. That’s why I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the Western States Carpenters. Together, we’re going to make it easier to build the homes Angelenos need.

In his stunning victory, El-Sayed has also ignited an electoral transformation on Israel/Palestine. This has been a long time coming. In 2014, I wrote this article in Foreign Policy, looking ahead: "America Has a Plan. And, No, It Isn't One That Israel Would Like." foreignpolicy.com/2014/03/02/a...

Shri Thanedar's politics - broadly left of center on domestic US politics but with a huge carve-out for Hindutva - actually makes him the closest non-Jewish analogue to a certain kind of American Jewish politics.

This is the context for Thanedar and Modi. It's not just "is Thanedar pro-India," this is a simplistic phrasing of the foreign influence question for a country numbering 1.477 billion souls. The question is perhaps more properly "which India."
