The reason abortion is popular right now is that roughly three generations of women have had access to it and we all know someone (possibly ourselves) whose life has been saved by it.
By not being tied to a man who would harm us. By being able to choose when or if we have kids. By not being forced into poverty because of a birth control failure. By not having our bodies shut down on us because of a miscarriage.
The reason the anti-abortion conservatives needed (and I mean NEEDED) to get rid of the "risk to life and health" exception to anti-abortion laws was that EVERY PREGNANCY risks life and health. Every. One.
