flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social · 13h agoThis is what they expected and wanted to happen: that members of the public, shown the cops would take their side if they kicked off and went mental at anyone they suspected of being a transgender, would then start going apeshit en masse and enforce their wacko ideas for them.

Again, a fundamental issue with trying to cover the anti-trans movement is that explaining that they are habitually insincere and so routinely chose transphobia over women's rights does make you sound conspiratiorial, and yet...

I think Redwall takes place in our world, after an apocalyptic event of the nuclear variety caused rapid but varied growth of all animals, including humans, leading to our extinction and their mental development. So as we know, i am a big supporter of breastfeeding, I’ve been breastfeeding for something like 3.5 combined years at this point, hugely in favour of support and education, Formula saves lives and i absolutely hate this kind of stuff where it’s excluded as if it’s not bloody FOOD FOR INFANTS

general reminder that you absolutely do not need to have an opinion on everything. social media just makes you think you should. "i don't know enough about this to have an opinion" is one of the most liberating thoughts you can have in the modern world.
I did a conference panel a few months ago with Dame Wendy Hall who said, from the stage, something along the lines of, "well I wonder which men are going to get the extra money they're suddenly finding for AI research?", and I guess we now know the answer to that.

I really loved Wilson's essay! It reminded me of things about The Odyssey that I'd forgotten & which enriched my experience of the film! I disagree with some of its points & find that *exciting*, because it's helping me sharpen my own thinking about it through the lens of her expertise!
I think it's absolutely good & fine for people to disagree with the essay's points but it is baffling to see complaints like "Wilson doesn't get that an adaptation makes changes" or "Wilson doesn't get cinema" or "Wilson should be more polite & gracious," like come on friends what are we doing here!
Some people act like a giant blockbuster film that cost a quarter billion and will make more than that is a tiny injured puppy we are not allowed to criticize because having dissenting cultural interpretations is just like kicking that tiny puppy.
Complaining 'I don't want to read 4000 words of something an academic thinks' after stumbling into the 4000 words of academics' thoughts bar.
His saying he liked her translation did not obligate her to say she liked his movie, or to be quiet if she didn't like it. And people, specifically women, should not "expect" to get personally attacked on the internet for having opinions, even if that is what will predictably happen.

Bowled over by how much I properly *loved* One of Our Thursdays Is Missing on a re-read - I remember finding it very disappointing the first time around. A surprisingly common experience I have rereading books I first read aged 21 is just how violently I disagree with myself, one way or the other.
As a punishment for his world’s-worst-in-class Routemaster buses, Thomas Heatherwick should be banned from ever enjoying air conditioning for the rest of his life. And from May to September every year he is only allowed to travel in London via bus routes which use his sweat box behemoths.

The death of third spaces is really giving people brain rot. Children should have access to public spaces because this is how they learn to behave. Community cohesion depends on one’s willingness to help out with childcare. It is weird to me not to see children existing in public like public transit
