I am a data scientist, researcher, engineer, sometime-traveler, and African SFF author. I am fascinated by the frontiers of human progress: innovation vs ignorance; wealth vs poverty, migration vs stasis. I also drink a great deal of coffee.
The last time so many people had to be evacuated from one place was in 1940, for Dunkirk. Conducted against us by our environment, the climate crisis is a war we've imposed on ourselves. The next century will be full of pointless suffering
Ever read a take so stupid that you feel like it's just punched you in the face?
yeah I don't think you get to "oops, my bad" the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people - and counting! - because you got "carried away"
let he who hasn’t ever gotten so carried away illegally impounding federal funds that they killed hundreds of thousands of people cast the first stone
In case you didn’t have enough reasons to love Spanish football, here’s some more wholesome content of the male players paying their respects to the women’s team, which also won the world cup www.instagram.com/reel/DbEsgxe...

What I don't get about AI •company• hypervaluations, hyperinvestments & hyperexpectations is they only work if they have a moat. But they never licenced anything they needed to build their stuff. If it's ok to break the law to do this, they have no moat. Anyone can do what they did, & they will. So?
The internet’s blessed me by reminding me of Stéphan Gladieu’s insanely hard photos of costumes made by Young Congolese artists from all the shit we dump there I don’t want to ever see another leather jacket wearing billy idol clone in a cyberpunk setting again www.stephangladieu.fr/homo-detritus/
Oh, I don't know. This Other Eden by Ben Elton had billionaire media tycoons promoting escape shelters while deliberately causing environmental disasters for views. The rich paid for nicer air, & people tried to achieve fame by committing violence on famous people. I think he got it about right.
No science fiction could have prepared us for just how stupid the end of the world can be. "The environment was on the brink of collapse, and so, rather than deal with that, we burned what fuel we had left getting computers to scam each other for money."
It’s one of the great ironies that people across the world who’ve spent years and years whipping up hate and dividing countries are now complaining that people hate them.
Not now venomous-snakes-escaping-breeding-farms-during-flooding, we have other things to worry about.
First trailer for "Le Corset", directed by Louis Clichy ("Asterix") at Eddy Cinema studio. One of my favorite movies of 2026 so far. Coming in French theaters on October 14. >> www.catsuka.com/news/2026-07...

I feel like portraying it as a fringe theological dispute between catholic sects over the 2nd vatican council and finger pointing over who's a heretic, rather than as a conflict with a fringe far right sect that says Jews are going to hell and Muslims are rapists hides the general interest aspect.
There are about as many intersex people in the world as there are redheads— ~1.7% of the world's population. So claiming there are only two biological sexes is like claiming there are only two hair colors: Brown & Yellow. Now consider how you'd regard someone who loudly & repeatedly insisted that…
In South Africa, vigilante mobs are doing what similar mobs have done in Europe & what ICE does here. Xenophobia is a global epidemic. The carriers are right-wing & nationalist political activists.
