Just so everyone knows, this is a tried-and-true mainstream media tactic. For progressives/leftist candidates, every election is a “crucial test” and any loss would serve as proof to the media that the latest left-side moment is at its end. Any win, though, just means it’s time to find a new test.

I’m just a woman who has been involved in school safeguarding in the U.K. at a low level and even I know the trafficking that still goes on in hotels etc here. And nothing gets done. I told this to a corporate team I worked with once and they laughed. Then they went back to their hotel and saw it.

Now this one is an "it depends." Now I'm old enough to see how Catcher inthe Rye would resonate but it did not, at all, for me. (I also know folks for whom Mockingbird did not resonate.)

I think more people need to point out that the visual spectacle of this cruelty is also very much the goal for the administration: it is pleasure/entertainment to those who eagerly agree with/consume this fascist and White nationalist project. But also, its designed to provoke fear and anxiety.
