There are definitely some people who were confronted with both the fragility of human existence and systemic violence for the first time through Covid19 and decided they would learn absolutely nothing from the experience.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

How about every time the government has to order workers back to work for the sake of the "national public interest," the CEOs of the companies they work for have to go to jail for a year, as punishment for being so bad at their jobs that they created strike conditions at such a crucial industry.

Louder for the coaches wearing the correct t shirt and yet still behaving in an appalling manner: "Either you want trans people in your stands or you want transphobes. You can’t have both. And I can tell you that if you choose the transphobes you will be on the wrong side of history."

This is rough but I think it talks about a lot of what is missing from the Cunningham/WNBA discourse. Namely, that trans people are not hypothetical thought experiments. They are real people who are being genocided by our government & any coverage that doesn't center that reality misses the mark.

One thing the first bit of Brand New Day gets right is the feeling of the college drop-out (or, hell, the athlete who has to abandon their athletic career too early) when you're watching all the peers your age keep going, hitting milestones that just aren't and never will be ahead of you anymore.

When trans people bristled at policies that required time to be on hormones before being able to join elite competition it was because: -time on HRT was arbitrary -testosterone level achieved was arbitrary -maintaining testosterone levels continually is arbitrary -no one else had these restrictions

I was not having a good day and then the meaning of today's date hit me and it is freaky sometimes how this happens to me almost every year on this date without fail. The body never completely forgets, we just learn to grow around the scar tissue and keep moving.

hey boss. yeah i'm gonna be late again for my job in Myst world, where we live. i forgot which combination of the sixteen valve handwheels in my apartment opens the front door again

New: We found 50 cops who misused Flock cameras and other license-plate readers for personal purposes, often to spy on their girlfriends or ex-wives. He "watched every single move I made. ... Who do you turn the chief of police in to?" wapo.st/3S6rTuo

She left her ex. He secretly tracked her through a network of policing cameras.

Flock’s array of license-plate cameras was built to fight crime. But at least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing it and other systems.

I loooooved Björk in secondary school and I've been (sort of) rediscovering her since my brief jaunt in Iceland in July. I'm not a huge fan of live albums but I think both Pagan Poetry and Losss for Cornucopia (2025) are probably my favourite versions of both those songs.

today's youth will never have the experience of scrolling the 40 or so channels you had at 1 AM on a friday night looking for something interesting or horny and catching the back half of eXistenZ without having any idea what it was

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

It really worries me how much more difficult it is to avoid the surveillance panopticon, gambling, and both generative and agentic AI. Positioning yourself against all three really starts to feel like you're isolating yourself socially and professionally, if not outright engaging in self-sabotage.
