Leabharlannaí Ireland, Canada, Etc. MLIS and migraines. Pronouns in bio just in case someone feels a need to shoot me on the street.

This is actually a place where those of us who have some seniority and no fucks to give can leverage their privilege. If someone posts a job to a list without salary info, I will IMMEDIATELY reply on-list to say “Before I forward this to great candidates who might be interested, what is the salary?

My MLS students would like you to know that if you don't post a salary with your job posting, they aren't likely to apply.

seeing a lot of "come to the library if you get too hot and smoky" announcements. And yes, you should. (We also have, like, books) It's just that, in the near term, I am not sure most building HVAC systems can meaningfully cope with serious wildfire smoke and heat at the same time.

I got someone spitting mad earlier this year because I *insisted* on referring to their tool as an LLM and not AI, and would not let them force me into using AI as the term. I realized for a lot of people this has become an item of faith, not cold analysis of a tool.

Here a compilation of stupid things library consultants have said to me in solidarity with library pals at Lambeth Libraries where genius consultants has decided that a qualified head of library service post isn't really essential.

That captures it fairly well. Wildfire smoke over North Vancouver. Smoky clouds and an orange hue of the sun. Not much of a smoky “taste” in the air yet, thankfully. Time to close the doors and windows.

Orange smoky clouds and the orange glow of the sun peeking out behind a Japanese Maple tree, and several evergreen trees.

Democrats: We've got to find common ground with these people, not scare away middle-ground voters with freaky ideas like "state supports that are normal in other countries". Republicans: that's not a UFO, its a fallen angel.

Rep. Lauren Boebert weighs in on the government's release of UFO files, saying aliens are actually "fallen angels and Nephilim" from the Old Testament: "I do believe that this is more spiritual and, if you really want to go there, demonic."

"But he can't do that..." We're TEN FUCKING YEARS IN of living wholly inside "BUT HE CAN'T DO THAT". That is no longer a viable argument and is basically shorthand for dissociating. They control every aspect of the Federal government, and they can, in fact, very easily do that.
