@rweingarten.bsky.social, this is a horror. Teachers cited in this article say they're using "A.i." to develop lesson plans for kids with disabilities and imply that they're feeding student data into LLMs. This is using untested, dangerous teach on vulnerable kids AND possibly violating privacy law.

“Teaching educators about AI is a ‘moral imperative’, said Randi Weingarten, the AFT president.” “And without outside funding, it was a choice between taking big tech’s money or doing nothing, she said.”

Heya folks! I'm Gnome (he/him, trans). Love living in Chicago and working in games! I run a stationery club and host community events IRL & on Discord at CozyStationeryClub.com! Currently on streaming hiatus, but I’ll be back! Open to collabs & freelance social media & community management work 🧡

Enjoyed this Esquire feature on the Churchwell brothers. IMO, they are among the last elegantly dressed men in the United States. Notably, neither are "fashion influencers." They are both distinguished cardiologists with great taste and a lifetime relationship with the same tailor.

Hi there, an educator here. We don’t need training on AI. We know what it is. We’re holding on for dear life until private equity decides to move on to the next shiny thing. I just hope there are enough of us still around to pick up the pieces.

I place my cutlery down, sip my orange juice, and then look across to my beautiful wife in the soft morning light. Me: well, I better head to the office now and…*voice becomes robotic*…BEGIN SORTING AND ORGANISING THOUSANDS OF FACTS My glass shatters, the plate cracks, my wife bursts into tears.

"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.

I haven't heard people talking about this, but AI is an absolute game changer for doing historical research. History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts— a massive logistical/memory problem made so delightfully easy with agentic research. 1/

I did an OCR conversion of all my PDFs to make text files, built a semantic search index, and can just let my agents roam free to answer questions, fact-check, dig up interesting stories, quotes, etc. It takes a lot of the hard work out, as well as a lot of the human error. 2/2

I still remember a "cookout" on a 90+ F day, where the hosts had raw chicken sitting out in the heat. I tried to tell my husband to stick with the potato chips, and he didn't hear me. We remain extra vigilant about food handling practices.

I still remember people getting upset at me when I said that Thanksgiving leftovers aren't safe to eat after ~4 days. It just reminded me why I don't do potlucks.

I briefly burned through the free uses of this accursed AI Google Earth editor (yes, bad me) and I have two things to report. 1. This is bad and it will only be used for evil. We are already living in a hellscape of misattributed war footage, AI content, & fake accounts 2. This will only get worse

Hank, buddy, is asking a five year old research? No because the five year old, much like the disgusting ai, has no idea what they're talking about and will likely parrot something they heard that probably isn't correct I say this like he might read this, unfortunately he probably won't

"I was in a hurry and used AI. Oops, sorry it was all wrong." Darlings. Sweethearts. Listen to me. If you're in a creative field and do this, you have no excuse. None. Especially now. The gen AI stole from YOU. The gen AI stole from your FRIENDS. It is wrong a lot! You should know and do better.

Very sad to say that I was laid off yesterday along with a bunch of great @salon.com colleagues My time there was short and busy: I got to write about books and relationships and how much gen AI sucks and people being horny for Frankenstein’s monster Some of my faves are linked below
