The spirometer, used to help doctors diagnose lung disease, had a so-called race equation built into it. It was drawn from assumptions about the anatomy of Black people that were false and based on “science” traced back to American slavery. Why are hospitals around the US still using it?

A “race equation” baked into a standard medical test is hurting Black patients, but most hospitals are still using it

A standard medical test with racist origins is cutting off Black patients from needed treatments. Why do hospitals still use this harmful test today?

In the 1780s and 90s George Washington kept his Philadelphia-based household staff enslaved despite Pennsylvania’s gradual abolition laws by trafficking them out of the state and back into the state to reset the clock every 6 months despite the fact that he had publicly supported the laws.

This is wild. In late 2025, federal and state officials kept a Mexican woman in custody for almost a month by repeatedly rebooking her just before her 72-hour time limit ran out. www.propublica.org/article/immi...

There are no trans women playing in the WNBA so "protecting women from trans" is not actually a problem. The REAL problem is BLACK WOMEN are playing hard against White female players and White people don't like that. "Protecting women against trans" is actually "Protecting White Women from Blacks"

“I’m afraid and heartbroken because when I speak to people they’re like, ‘Oh for God’s sake, forget that. It was 20 years ago that there were Nazis and skinheads, now it’s gone,’” she said. “They’ve normalised it. It’s not my safe Sweden any more, it’s not the Sweden that I’m used to.” Tess Asplund.

Since it's Fred Hampton's birthday... Iberia and Francis Hampton were Mamie Till's neighbors. When Till’s regular babysitter was unavailable, Iberia babysat Emmett. Fred was born in 1948. That would make him seven years old when Emmett was murdered in Money, Mississippi.

#tdih 1955, while visiting family in Mississippi, 14-yr-old Emmett Till was lynched. 💔 Till was vilified by mainstream (white) press, including Washington Post. Important to also teach about & study Black press & reporters, like Simeon Booker. Read ⬇️ zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/em...

In very local news: This morning, I was surprised to discover I had completely run out of grits, so none with Sunday breakfast. I’m slippin’ lol 😆😭 (Normally, I stay on top of this sort of thing.)

Our parks belong to all of us. These places should be protected for every generation, not sold off to Trump’s ultra-wealthy friends to profit off of. I will fight this, both for Yosemite and for every treasured park that would be up for grabs if this domino falls.

SCOOP: Trump officials are pressuring the National Park Service to find a way to give a small piece of Yosemite to a private developer. The land would be used for a road, to give the developer rare private access to the heart of the park.
