I've had a bit of a day, so let's do a little #WorldBuildingThread as a treat. Tonight's topic: every-day carry mending kit. Unsurprisingly, I have several of these, because different "every day" situations may require different things, but these 2 are my actual honest-to-goodness everyday carries.

Increasingly tempted to go to the teahouse lately, so let's post some previous notes from a tea that I haven't touched on around here yet, but really liked! This old tree red has a great maple cinnamon thing going here, no wonder it's stuck in my mind until now :)

A tea setup rests on a towel, leaves visible in a mesh basket to the right of the pot. Furthest to the right is the tea itself, swirling with steam and a delightful red.

Tasting notes, unabridged:
Old tree red tea at the teahouse today! This name actually applies to many different styles and locations of tea? STRONG cinnamon notes on this one, with some maple sneaking in under the wire, and an umami i can best describe as loose and silken in the mouth after you swallow. Quite good! If I ever make space in my tea cabinet, I'll have to grab a good sized bag of this.

I made some refillable books for mini zines out of a bunch of random stuff in my house! I think I got enough of the floral print to make 2 more. Each book holds 10 zines.

A photo of a binder with 10 mini zines in it. They fan out when opened.A picture of a full and empty binder. Each zine is held in by a loop of embroidery thread.A picture of the outside of the binder. It was made with a thrift store print and some cardboard.

Man goes to see the Cyclops. Says he's depressed. He wants to get back to his wife and home, but he keeps running into fatal predicaments along the way. Cyclops says, "Prognosis is simple. Nobody can help you." Man starts crying. Says, "But Cyclops, I *am* Nobody"

Speaking of that French onion soup from last post, here's one of the two bowls worth! (The second awaits me in the fridge) I'm a little later doing this than I should, but this has done as it should, and reminded me that there's always something worth sticking around for, if you're willing to look 💙

An absolutely delectable bowl of French onion soup steams at the camera, its cheese blistered and darkened just right. It's clearly extremely ready to burn the roof of your mouth, if you're not careful with the first few bites.

Prepping for my (belated) halfway through the year French onion soup, gives me a good few moments to teapost, here's a cave aged white tea! (IX for the tomb from Friday afternoon) (Tasting notes in the most steeped photo's alt text)

A 6g chunk of pressed white tea sits on a saucer, waiting to be brewed. A smallish tea table has been set with a gaiwan, two cups, a cat shaped tea pet, and a justice cup. The wash steep of the tea, most of which has been poured over a little cat shaped tea pet. (There's a little in a cup for reference)Three steeps in, the tea has darkened significantly! Now, here's the tasting notes, press skip if you don't want to hear them

From the dry leaves (especially in the warmed gaiwan) it's giving off a scent like a mildly fancy 70 percent dark chocolate bar. (what springs to mind is finding a ghiardelli bar in a discount store <:altirnLUL:1502818635935121509> ) the wash steep, predictably, has very little to actually say in the way of taste, but you get a sorta mossy, just rained vagueness out of it that's still nice, imho. the chocolate has evolved into "what the cheap red wine I use for french onion soup smells like" while I was fussing about with the tea pet and the drinking the wash, and the chinese medicine cabinet vibes of later cups are being heralded by a sort of freshly soaked reeds taste. (think how it smells when you've soaked thin strips of some unidentified wood to make a basket at a summer camp). Getting into the main steeps, that medicine cabinet note is in full force, alongside a bit of a marigoldy, peppery bite out front, with that mossy, wet forest note lingering in the mouth between cups. I also find the empty cup scent interesting here (i know, I know, you're mostly supposed to bother with that on floral oolongs, but I'm a big sucker for those so I check anyway), it's a faint ghost of that mossy, leafy, forest floor tone that lingers in the mouth.

This is probably suppressed hipster tendencies talking, but I'm finding that I'm often more interested in something that got an ennie nomination and didn't win than the things that got silver and gold

I'm down a rabbit hole on combination utensils. There's my beloved SPORK, but then we get into the much more exotic combos: This one's called a FORKCHOP, designed by Donald BonAsia in Los Angeles, available now through a variety of online retailers.

From the e-commerce site named after the river basin it's destroying, a red plastic device with chopsticks joined in the middle to a fork head pointing the other way.
