This whole thing is great but there's a bit at the end where they highlight how X has been a particularly bad place to be in terms of panic, and I think the way so many normally-rational people lost their minds during this cycle is a nice demo of how X is permanently ruining a whole bunch of people

One of the really depressing things about being a jobbing academic moving between different unis (and there are a lot to pick from) is going from place to place seeing the same 'strategies' applied that have failed everywhere else you worked. Destroying programmes doesn't save universities.

Any lives lost due to this closure should be laid firmly at the feet of the far-right agitators who caused this. The way in which anti-asylum activists are putting more and more people at risk should be a wake up call that it is time to genuinely combat them, rather than pandering to their ideology.

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.
